Hello All:

Would those of you who have recipes that can be used for the Dormition fast please post them? This is all new to me seeing as I am coming over from the Latin Rite. Thank you.

I understand the wisdom of wanting to be fasting in obedience or under the oversight of a spiritual father. But would you recommend a person always getting this feedback if they have say already gone through similar fasts or the exact same fast in the past and little has changed in their health? I would think that it would seem a little redundant to ask for advice on the matter every single time a fast comes up, when basically it is recommended that those who can fast should prayerfully consider fasting.
I do not meet again with a priest until next week but want to participate in the fast. I think the way they list these things in outr bulletin assumes that one would be encouraged to participate, but seek counsel if they had an issue to consider.
Also, when you say a Spiritual Fr. could that mean a latin Rite priest or any rite, or should it really be a priest of the rite that you are liturgically seeking to follow the path of? I would think either would do, if you were already familiar with one before having switched rites.

Are there options for people who need to regulate blood sugar so it doesn't drop below a certain point? I am susceptible to hypoglycemia.

This is exactly WHY fasting should be discussed with your SF

He knows you and your health problems , and domestic situation as well and will mitigate the fast if it is necessary. This is not a problem. No-one should fast to the extent that their health is put at risk.

There are many reasons as well when fasting is not advised . I have not been permitted to fast this year , in fact my SF was very very blunt with me and said he would be most displeased if I did even the very minor one I had considered. That ban continues and we have discussed what I am to do instead.

Any of our clergy want to come in on this - should we perhaps have a separate thread for this ??

Alice, I believe, posted a recipe a while back that was really good. It was pasta, beans, and marinara sauce. Also, don't let your blood chocolate level drop. It's very bad for your physical and spiritual health. It will definitely put you in an uncharitable mood, too.

Yep, I e-mailed Father regarding fasting and he mentioned the strict fast and a modified fast for newbies (-; Seeing as i am a newbie it is the modified<easier> fast for me. (-; Also, he was very emphatic in stating that prayer must go hand in hand with the fast.

I do need to be sensible as I work at a kennel and can burn a lot of calories working with the big dogs not to mention my own who are a German Rottweiler/Boxer mix and a German Shepherd/Foxhound mix. The Shepherd mix is a young un and can run me ragged. (-;

Hmmm. Since Transfiguration falls during the Dormition Fast, it would seem appropriate to have a good collection of recipes involving fruit - anyone have such recipes to offer?
