Dear Friends,

I found out that Prince Charles spent three days alone in a Romanian Orthodox Monastery at Chores . . .

On May 2nd, he went, again alone, to Mt Athos . . .

FYI.

They sound like good places for him - although whether he is good for the monasteries is, perhaps, questionable.

Dear Incognitus,

I believe it has something to do with calling sinners, rather than the righteous to repentance . . . ?

Does that ring any bells? (Trezvon or otherwise wink ).

Aren't the monasteries where the former Patriarch of Romania was banished to for collaborating with Ceauceascu?

Sinners come wearing all sorts of robes!

I was under the distinct impression that Teoctist is still the Patriarch of Romania, despite his revolving-door resignation in December 1989.

I hasten to add that some of the monasteries in Romanian are breath-takingly beautiful.

This is not unusual for Prince Charles. His father, George, was Greek Orthodox. A friend of mine's father is a priest-monk for ACROD and he's actually spent time with Prince Charles on Mt. Athos. He's got the pix to prove it!

From what he tells me, Prince Charles goes there now and then.

I would assume he hasn't fully embraced Orthodox because of that whole "head of the English Church" thing he's got to fulfill one day.

Dear Domilsean,

You made a mistake. Prince Charles Father is Philip. Actually the Prince's aunt I believe was an Orthodox nun. His grandfather might have been King George of Greece. I really do not know...royalty confuses me so.

His uncle was Lord Mountbatten, and he was the one that kind of prepared and introduced his nephew Philip to Queen Elizabeth. She was lucky. She met a very impressive, good looking and apropriate husband or as one English humorously said in a skit: 'She married a Greek sailor'.

Her sister was not so lucky. She fell in love with a divorced man and was not allowed to marry him.

I recall that the Mountbattens were originally the German 'Battenbergs'. I believe that Lord Battenberg was relieved of his job in England during WW I and thereby changed his name to the more Anglo-Saxon ' Mountbatten', causing him to say, "someday a Battenberg will sit on the thrown of England."

Well if it's either Prince Charles or his son, they are both 'Battenbergs'. Just a little tidbit

Now let's get into some more tidbit. Why is Prince Charles allowed to be one of the Godfathers of King Constantine's grandson? The Baptism was conducted by the Patriarch of Constantinople himself. Very interesting!

Maybe Incognitus could give Charles one of his extra paper bags for Camilla. wink biggrin But it's more likely that Charles is trying to get away from his mother. wink

Dear Friends,

Actually, rumour has it that Prince Charles is very interested in Orthodoxy.

He could embrace Orthodoxy and still be heir to the throne, as I'm informed.

The Sovereign in the U.K. is not the "head" of the Church of England, but its "temporal protector" - and the tp for the Church of Scotland.

I am also informed that he has had enough of the Anglicans and is very close to a number of English Orthodox converts, has icons commissioned etc.

And he does go to Divine Liturgy with his father, Prince Philip, who has returned to the Orthodox Christian faith. After all, there is a close dynastic, family connection to the Royal Martyrs of Russia, St Elizabeth Feodorovna and others glorified as Orthodox New Martyrs.

Prince Michael of Kent, who looks very much like Tsar Nicholas II, has also become an Orthodox Christian and I had the privilege of meeting him at an event here where we discussed his conversion and his strong dedication to Russian language and cultural studies.

Dear Incognitus,

I stand corrected! Then again, what is one more churchman who collaborated with an anti-Christian government?

Zenovia, thank you, I stand corrected. I get all these royals mixed up. Philip, George... what's the difference? I've enjoyed a great seafood buffet at both establishments!

Maybe no one will get that joke.

My girlfriend (former RC/now Orthodox) just got reemed out by her confessor/priest for baptizing her RC niece....but in Orthodox Prince Pavlos' (of Greece) case, I guess that he gets special 'royal economy' to have a non-Orthodox (Prince Charles) baptize his child.

Alice,

who just wishes that some form of spiritual reconciliation would occur between the churches in order to stop the nonsense of who can and who cannot baptize a child...I know too many 'Orthodox' godparents of Orthodox children who have totally abdicated their roles of even being secular mentors (and important and loving people in a child's life), no less, mentors of the Orthodox faith. frown frown

Friends,

Prince Charles comes quite regularly to Romania. He likes to stroll in the country zone, on hills, visiting monasteries. And the landscapes are so beautiful...

Also you should know that he used to go to the Holy Mountain Athos, having private dialogues with the Father Dionisie Ignat, a great confessor, a humble Romanian priest monk, at the Keli "Saint Great Martyr George" from Colciu, Holy Mountain Athos.

Father Dionisie went to God in May, 2004, and on 12th he was burried. Prince Charles was present at the funerals in Holy Mountain Athos.

Glory to God for all.

You may see photos with Father Dionisie Ignat going here (just see page 1, 2, 3).

Dear Marian,

As you know, King Michael of Romania is directly related to Prince Charles.

(I personally met King Michael when he was here and bowed to him!)
