This thread, for the prayerful celebration of the episcopal ordination of Mar Emil, was begun by Two Lungs in another forum, but got derailed.

The election of Archbishop Nona took place according to the tradition in the Eastern-rite Churches. The synod of bishops of the Chaldean Church made the decision, which was then approved by the Pope.

Sunday's ceremony for Archbishop Nona was attended by several political and Muslim leaders.

Please give thanks for the Archbishop's election and pray for his safe tenure in the position formerly held by the martyred Archbishop Mar Paulos Faraj Rahho.

Axios!
Thank you so much for sharing that link. I think in these photos we see the faces of saints. What an incredible testament to their faith that so many were there.

I'm struck by the lack of smiles, and one can surely understand why given the constant fear and heartbreak under which they're living. It contrasts so painfully the joy on all the clergy and the people at the one ordination of a bishop I was blest to participate in.

I'm reminded of a wonderful blog of memories of Bishop Paulos Faraj Raho [blogs.mcc.org] back on March 17, 2008 of a Mennonite worker who was then resident a St. Peter’s seminary in Ankawa and teacher at Babel Pontifical College. Scroll down the page to March 17.

Prayers for our dear brothers and sisters in Iraq.

Axios, Axios, Axios.

And safety too! May he always be surrounded by God's Holy Angels. That the foolishness of this world will be confounded by the miraculous hand of God through his servant Archbishop Emil Shimoun Nona
