As far as I know, the Russian Catholic community in Denver uses adapted OCA translations, with the approval of Archbishop Charles Chaput, precisely on the basis of Pius XII's "nec plus, nec minus, nec aliter."

Arcimandrite Lazarus (Moore) had a splendid translation of the Psalms from the LXX. I've suggested to SVP that they reprint it with the Odes and Psalter prayers. No result so far.

Try the second edition of The Horologion published by Sophia press (Eparchy of Newton) and The Publicans Prayerbook from the same source. Good, dignified contemporary English! One caveat (?) -- the music in the Horologion is Byzantine in the Melkite style.

Christ is Risen,

I'm Roman and I use the Jordanville prayer book. I really don't think God cares, since I believe Catholics and Orthodox are all orthodox Christians (little O!). I'm sure He's just happy to have one of His children making the effort to come closer to Him!

The 2nd edition of Fr. Lazarus' Psalter has been scanned and is now available online, courtesy of the indefatigable Nikita Simmons. Here is the URL:

I was advised to follow my heart by my SD, so I use the Publican's Prayer Book and my old Monastic Diurnal...

A spiritual blend of East & West...

Just my opinion....but IMO they didn't do good translating "back in the day".....

... they still do it today. Including the only English translation of the menaion I know that's properly metered for the promsomia in a consistently excellent English. wink
