I am hoping that someone from this forum might be able to provide some assistance in locating a high resolution digital image of this icon of Our Lady of Fatima.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I took that picture years ago.

You can find a very high res image of that icon here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimforest/4594055285/sizes/o/

It is the patronal icon that is found at Our Lady of Fatima Russian Byzantine Catholic Church in San Francisco, CA, USA.
This has always been one of my favorite icons and the high resolution lets you see the details.

Compare that with the photo taken by our own Filipe YTOL of the Fatima icon that is kept in the Byzantine Chapel of the Dormition at Fatima: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/pipos/blogsantiago.jpg
(He did say in a previous thread that he has a high res photo of this icon.)

Although both icons appear at first glance to be identical, there are differences, especially how the faces are drawn. Another clue is that the Fatima icon from SF shows three women in the upper left hand side with their heads covered while the icon from Fatima itself shows four women with heads covered. Looks like they were painted by two different iconographers.

Which is the original Fatimskaya? My guess is the one in San Francisco is the original since the parish was dedicated on October 13, 1956, while the Byzantine Chapel at Fatima was dedicated on August 28, 1963.

Who was the iconographer for each? Don't know.

As you know, there was and is a bit of a bias against the Fatima devotion within Catholic ecumenicalist circles because of the fact that there are "Fatimist" groups that have interpreted the Fatima message that "Russia will be converted" to mean that it will be converted to Rome.

That interpretation is quite a stretch as there was never any mention of Rome during the reported apparitions.

Fatima has become quite offensive to Russian Orthodox as a result and this could possibly explain why Bl John Paul II made no mention of the "Fatima decade prayer" in his letter on the Marian Rosary.

I find that to be unfortunate in light of the fact that Russian Orthodox pilgrims would visit Fatima, most notably the late Metropolitan Nikodim. Link. [johnhaffert.org]
