"Christ the Prisoner" - Icon Focal Point for Lent 2014
Hello, everybody!
Several months ago I asked my good friend Ray (70x7 here at the forum) for an icon of the "Extreme Humility" which I would reproduce as holy cards to hand out on Ash Wednesday to my parishioners and students.
Ray, ever creative and artful, said he envisioned an icon of Christ in prison, condemned and abandoned. I said, "go for it."
On the back of the holy card I included the quote, in English and Spanish to reflect the bilingual nature of my parish, from Isaiah, "“And yet ours were the sufferings he bore, ours the sorrows he carried. Yet he was pierced through for our faults, crushed for our sins. On him lies the punishment that brings us peace, and through his wounds we are healed.”
Underneath the quote is a blank line where my parishioners and students at the high school where I serve as chaplain to write what they're going to give up or offer for Lent (that old and great RC practice).
Thank you, Ray, and I hope that you all have a blessed Lent/Great Fast 2014.
