You are right - the UGCC should and must be open to everyone, including someone like our Administrator with his beautiful voice! smile
Look what happened to Angela of Glasgow - she's now "Anhelyna" and on Robbie Burns' Day I understand she gets a great desire to eat haggis-stuffed perogies! smile smile

Дорогий мій Сашко,

Я люблю вареників та борщу але не такі як ти пропонував.

А УГКЦ напевно тішиться фактом, що я не з українського походження та взагалі не знаю української мови.

З повагою,

Ангелина

OK - who wrote the poem I've just misquoted?

My guess: Hohol / Gogol

Dear Anhelyna,

Celts have been known to speak perfect Ukrainian after they've been "into their cups" so to speak! smile

However, the derivative of "borscht" in your post is wrong . . . no need for an "y" at the end . . . or "iv" in "varenyky" smile

Please do tell Andrij he should read the Ukrainian books he's getting from Kyiv more . . . smile

The poem is Rudyard Kipling's On the Road to Mandalay - and the only alteration I made was changing "Suez" to "Donbas".

Dear Incognitus,

You really are your worst enemy, you know.

So now we know you are an EC priest who reads Rudyard Kipling.

Tsk tsk - well at least I try Alex - not like some folk who are supposed to be translating stuff for me - and I head out to Lourdes next month [ yes really next month ] and it would be sooooooooo nice to take that the Akathist with me .

Dear Anhelyna,

Truth be told, I'm working on a translation of that Akathist right now . . .

It would truly be an honour to have it in the hands of "our people" at Lourdes, given to them by "our Anhelyna."

I'm not very good at my Ukie keyboard and so it is a slow process, but I'm getting better.

Alex,

Are you telling us that Ukrainians are nothing more than really drunk Celts?

Dear Administrator,

Only on Saturday nights and (Ukrainian) national holidays! smile

Those are also probably the best times to try and get them to agree to English Liturgies too!

A Happy Mary, Queen of Scots' Day to you and Anhelyna!

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?

Cheers!

I think he is suggesting that Celts are sober Ukrainians.

Dear Alex - I may be my own worst enemy (although I could name a few others!) but reading Kipling is not among my vices. Long years ago I was required by a misguided schoolteacher to memorize that poem, and it has stuck with me. This was the first time in decades that I've had occasion to refer to it!

My apologies Dr Eric

I'm afraid I was being bad and wicked frown - a failing of mine.

I was pointing out to Alex that I do enjoy Perogies and borsch but I do not enjoy those made from haggis,

Being absolutely honest haggis is something that I really cannot stand . Yeah I know a Scot that doesn't like Haggis and is a non Ukrainian speaking member of the UGCC is certainly an oddball sort of person.

And now I'll let you really laugh at me - to type in Cyrillic is a real bind - I set the Ukrainian keyboard for my Computer , pull up the map of where each character is and then 1 letter at a time, type - the snag is that every time I go over to the cribsheet [ keyboard map] the darn keyboard changes back automatically to the British one so when I go back to typing in Cyrillic I have to change it once more.

Is the excercise worth it ? I think so , I do want to be able to use Ukrainian whether I will ever manage to understand my Priest's sermons remains to be seen.

Dear Dr Eric,

Here is a translation of Anhelyna's Ukrainian post:

My dear Sashko (Russian form of "Alex" mad biggrin )

I do love perogies, but not the kind that you described.

The UGCC is doubtless happy that I'm not of Ukrainian descent and that I don't speak Ukrainian.

With respect,

Anhelyna

Cheers,

Alex
