I only know that the Archimandrite joined ROCOR and have no other details, sorry. Although I must say I don't consider reporting of facts gossip. I think that is a problem that persists in the Catholic Church. When one reports facts or news that isn't good it is quickly termed gossip. (Alex, I am not accusing you of this but it is something I see alot)
We must be honest and open about the bad as well as the good. Telling the truth wil never hurt the Church, hiding it has and will, as we have all to well learned. In Christ, Fr. Deacon Lance

Bless, Father Deacon Lance!
I was only pulling your diaconal leg here!
I know it's not gossip, but a lot of "nash" people here consider it a scandal, as do our ecclesial higher-ups.
You know, what the Moscow Patriarchate under communism couldn't do to the Studites, that the "Tsareslav Church" did in the freedom of North America . . .

Alex Alex, why do you persist in posting the most tantalizing links then usually seem to end being in a non-English language? I always feel so deprived when this happens. If I didn't love you so much, I would be hurt. Good to have you back my friend, I missed you. Don (your Ukie wannabe friend)

Bless, Father Don!
Actually, I think one can have that site, and that of the MP that carries the same article somewhere, in English!
Now that I'm home, however, I have to be careful with my postings - I'll get she-who-must-be-obeyed mad if I'm not doing my chores - and looking for a job!
God bless,
Alex

I wish the SSPX contintinued success in Russia and abroad (no, not to be confused with the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad ), as long as it's not wrought by proselytism. Logos Teen

Logos Teen Hmmmm...in another post you said: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In fact, if a Catholic leaves communion with the successor of St Peter, even for Orthodoxy, it is a tragedy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well said, Daniel. It's very tragic. Logos Teen" The SSPX have left communion with Peter for a long time. They are in every sense of the word schismatic. And they do encourage proselityzm as they reject the Balamond agreement, saying it is heretical and that they have a duty to return those schismatic Orthodox to the "True Church". They are also encouraging Eastern Catholics in Ukraine and possibly other Eastern Eurpean Catholics to go into schism, to reject the efforts of lawful hierarchy to return to our Eastern roots as directed by several Popes and Vatican II. Dear Teen Logo,
What has the SSPX to do with/in Russia?
When the Pope was in Central America years ago, a priest who was in schism and was a member of the Nicaraguan government tried to kiss the Pope's hand.
The Pope withdrew it and, instead, gave him the finger, scolding him to first make peace with his church.
The same finger can be pointed at the SSPX.

Uh, could you rephrase that? I doubt very much that the Pope gave anyone the finger!

Dear Daniel, Actually, there was film footage of the Pope publicly giving the (index) finger to a priest when he visited Nicaragua. It was well done! Alex

My husband and I had a good laugh over that one last night! I bet the pope would LIKE to give the (NOT index) finger to the SSPX! And then we thought maybe they don't use the expression "give the finger" in Canada and poor Alex had no idea what was so funny!

Dear Tammy,
Actually, in Canada to "give the finger" means to shake one's index finger at someone as if to say "Now, now!"
The Canadian reporter covering the story said the above when he saw the Pope shake a finger at the prostrate priestly prig.
When I was teaching religion class, I explaind to my kids (all Eastern Catholics and Orthodox) about the two-fingers used by the Old Believers and how, when they were being arrested, they often raised two fingers defiantly into the air.
I told the kids they might try doing that to a teacher that gives them a hard time . . .

So, an innocent cultural misunderstanding once again proves good for a few laughs. In the US, "to give the finger " to someone means to make an obscene gesture with the middle finger, often accompanied by the equivalent of "f*** you".I had no idea this wasn't the universal meaning of the term in English. This forum is SO educational!
