David B is a good resource on this, as a former Epicopalian he used a good bit of the Eastern Prayers as a lay leader for his church. Of course now he is using them in the Orthodox Church. I was wondering how long it would take him to come East.

As strange as these folks are, exploration of the site does offer continual surprises, not all of which are negative. The music which djs pointed out is beautifully done. There is also a well-written section on Byzantine style iconography [ saintgregorys.org] , which includes a description of the process [ saintgregorys.org] of writing an icon They also sponsor what they describe as the only national listserv devoted to iconography. I have to say that I would love to see the kind and amount of energy that these folks seemingly devote to their church put into action in some of our own churches. Many years, Neil

There is the Community of the Holy Spirit in Eastlake, Ohio, that may come close, especially with their large white Byzantine-Slav cross in their front lawn! The pastor is a former Latin Catholic (my wife had him for CCD teacher years ago) who, I believe left and became a member of the Episcopalians - at least some branch of them. He later founded his own parish and is now a bishop. He is also married. Nice family too. The parish, "Community of the Holy Spirit," is listed under "Orthodox Churches" as the following link demonstrates: http://phonebook.superpages.com/yellowpages/C-Orthodox+Churches/S-OH/T-Ashland/ Their Orthodox affiliation is from their ties with the Ukrainian Sobornopravna Orthodox. Though I never visited his parish (or cathedral?), I did see pictures of his episcopal consecration where some of the clergy participating in the liturgy were from our eparchy. One of the ordaining bishops was a former seminarian from our Pittsburgh seminary, who is now a Metropolitin bishop of a Ukrainian Sobornopravna Orthodox church located in Cleveland, Ohio. The Holy Spirit community has an eclectic array of Eastern and Western iconography - at least that is what I gathered from looking at pictures. The 'bishop' now wears a mix of Latin and Byzantine episcopal robes and jewelry. He also participated in our Pilgrimage to the Churches event with our pastor and eparchy's protosyncellus. He was also invited to give a blessing to the attendees at an Eastern Church seminar held near Cleveland. We also have a few former parishioners attending his services that come back now and then. Our former bishop, Basil, even communicated him at the altar once. I think this is as close as it comes in this area. Joe

Neil, I agree. There is a serious love and commitment amongst those folks that we can all learn from.

Dear Friends, And I have my Ethiopian ceremonial umbrella at the ready! There was one Episcopalian parish that wanted to change its parish patron name to that of "St John Maximovych of San Francisco" some time ago. Anyone hear anything further about this? And this parish is the one, I believe, that annoyed Brendan the Navigator so much some years ago. That is why some of us kept talking to him about it . . . Alex

As an orthodox Anglican myself, i would say there are still some true Anglo-Orthodox churches out there (although the Anglican Church is poised to fall apart at the seams perhaps in the near future). If nothing else, we could definitely use your prayers. i was a die-hard Calvinist Presbyterian until i came to this [ stmatthias-dallas.org] parish (which i am now a member). This parish i currently attend is a mix of Latin and Eastern teachings and liturgy - although i would simply say they teach Apostolic Tradition. However, i probably would now be in the Orthodox Church if my wife didn't refuse to do so. She would rather be part of the Latin Church if we were not at our current parish. Our rector actually considered the Orthodox Church when he converted, but at the time (several decades ago) the Orthodox parishes he was in contact with were culturally exclusive (thus, he did not pursue it). Lastly, i am only a year-old convert, so i do apologize if my youth reflects itself in my above statements. Regards, the_grip

Dear Grip,
Does your parish honour King Charles the Martyr on January 30th?
And what about other saints?
