Ruel,
You may be right: the attitude of those going to Orthodoxy against the papacy may be a big problem. If there is one fault in the Philippine Catholic Church - it is its failure to teach the faithful about the basics of their faith. Yes, loyalty to & support for the successor of Peter, for its patriarch, is one of the hinges that is not clearly stated as a duty for Catholics. Many are not even aware of this and they start to criticize the hierarchy from bottom to top. Hence, when they go Orthodox or worse, eveangelical protestants, they carry the hatred along with them.
I really wish the Byzantine Catholics would put up a parish within Manila. We never know for what reason (perhaps to minister to the Byz-Caths going to Manila???). We never know who (perhaps the Redemptorists or Carmelite Fathers???). It's about time that the Filipinos see and breath, & most of all, to appreciate for themselves the beauty of Eastern Catholicism. I really wish they have one or more parish in Manila.
It's good news enough the good attitude many of those in the RC hierarchy displays in relation to the Orthodox church. At least, we see them as models of John Paul II's directive to breath with the 2 lungs of the Church.
Pray for me, a sinner! Antonio

Even when the attitude of the Roman Church in Asia is totally different from its attitude in Europe or the Americas, I find hard this possibility to become a reality. The problem I see is that the Eastern Rite communities within Rome are sometimes seen as an indult for people from certain ethnic backgrounds and nationalities before thir integration into the mainstram Church, and the Roman Bishops, specially the modern ones, do not wish to expand among the people they consider part of their Church. Moreover, they wish the others do "adapt themselves" to the reality of the Church. I have seen this here, western priests are now celebrating masses for eastern faithful, and they're being absorbed.
In Orthodoxy it is always possible to establish missions among people of different origins because Orthodoxy defines itself as a whole Church.

Then perhaps you should visit the "Where are our bishops?" thread in Byzantine News?
Alex Ok, I'll re-phrase :p : I'm immersed in the writings of the Church Fathers. How about that?

Dear Ruel,
Maligayang Pasko ng Pagkabuhay!
what i mean with being Orthodox in traditon and still remaining Cathoic in communion, like the situation in the russia with our brothers in faith (eastern catholics). they commpeletely pratice the Byzantine-Slavonic tradition and having communion with Rome. their official Name is Russian Orthodox Church in Communion With Rome.

Mapasainyo ang kapayapaan ng Diyos! The peace of the Lord be with you!
Its good to hear that someone is tending with the idea of having an eastern catholic mission here in our beloved country - Philippines.
Really, the faithful here must be acquainted with the tother lung of our Holy Mother Church. Though many of the venerable Orders have brought bits and pieces of the ancient tradions of the East because of the beginings.
Glory to God! Mabuhay ang Maykapal!

Dear Snoopy, Christ is Risen!
I think it should be given a shot. If the Greek Orthodox Church in the Philippines is not imposing Greek as the liturgical language, Eastern Catholic missions can do that as well. I have my full faith in God that one day He will raise someone in the Byzantine Catholic Church to start the missionary activities of the Eastern Catholic churches. If RC priests are taking care of the Eastern Catholics in Mexico, maybe the problem is the lack of vocation to the Eastern Catholic priesthood. I think this would be an oppurtunity for the Byzantine Catholic Church to erect a seminary in Asia and start there a vocation promotion program. Most missionaries are now from the Third World countries.
