I realize I'm probably "steppin' in it" as we say here in East Tennessee, but I'm interested in finding a source for icons of Western (i.e., Latin-rite) saints. Specifically, I'd like to find icons for Saint David of Wales and Saint Dominic.

I realize there are some "questionable" iconographers out there, so I would like to steer clear of anything with gnostic connections.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Are you looking for icon prints or real painted icons?

Mounted prints, actually. Real "painted" ones are probably out of my price range.

Dear Sea Knight,

Try going to your search engine and type in icons of Saint Domnick then icons of Saint David of Wales.

I got quite a few hits using that method.

Happy web surfing. smile

Dear David,

Take a look here Western Saint Icons [odox.net]

I think you'll find what you're looking for. If you scroll down to the bottom, you'll see recommended icon sources.

Dear Sea Knight,

Leaflet Missal Co. has an icon (reproduction) of Saint Dominic at the following web site/link:

Dear Sea Knight,

For my taste, I wish the St. Dominic icon pictured the dog holding a torch in his mouth and sitting next to St. Dominic.

I love the symbolism: the fire of his zeal for souls.

LOL Those Leaflet Missal icon prints are from Monastery Icons, the ones that everyone on here gets so bent out of shape about. And the other site is the site of an "uncanonical" Orthodox monastic community with "vagante" orders. Don

Dear Don,

I didn't follow the thread on Monastery icons because I don't like polemics (I'll get an argument about that statement!).

I'm not an iconographer. If I like an icon, I will admire it, use it to lift my mind in prayer and gaze on it as a window to heaven. As I learn more about icons I suppose my taste will becomed refined.

I respect your opinions about any icon vendor, but as long as they are not using their profits to support abortion or some other evil I don't see what's wrong with their icons.

Again, I do respect your opinions.

I want to leave it at that and not rehash previous discussions.

Sincerely,

Paul

Actually Paul, I was giving that information for Dave as he said he wanted to steer clear of places with gnostic connections, as some have alleged about Monastery Icons in numerous threads and posts. Personally I like many of their works and when I was still an active Old Catholic priest, I had many of their works in my chapel (including an icon of St. Dominic). I was just tweaking some noses. :p Don

Dear Friends,

Didn't St Thomas Aquinas say that "All truth, nomatter who speaks it, comes from the Holy Spirit?

Do you think that is true?

Hey Dave-
Are you sure that original icons are out of your price range? I do icons of Western as well as Eastern saints and I accept whatever payment plan you can afford. Email me for details, my prices are reasonable, or so I've been told. I don't have any photos of my work on line but could mail you some...
And Alex, of course St Thomas is right. That doesn't, however, mean you are.

Sea Knight Dave,

I've noticed you've been posting a few comments recently. If you are interested in learning more about Byzantine Catholicism, you're more than welcome to head down the road to Seymour and visit Holy Resurrection Mission. Divine Liturgy is every Sunday at 4:00 PM. Feel free to send me a private message using the icon of two people in front of an envelope at the top of this message, or you can get more information from our website [hrbcc.org] .
