Your daughter would not be allowed by the Orthodox Church to receive in an EC Church. AS she was baptized GO, she may, per the rules of the Orthodox Church, only recieve in an Orthodox Church. Anything else, you would need to formally convert, to EC. Also, you did not receive the Eucharist when you married. That common cup is not consecrated.

thanks Gaudior.
Is that the norm for a Byzantine (Orthodox and Catholic) wedding that both drink from an un-concecrated cup ?

With regard to my daughter receiving the Eucharist in the Catholic (EC or RC) church,
Maybe I'll write to her Bishop and ask permission.
It's not as if I'm denying her to receive in the Orthodox Church, I'll propose every other Sunday she will attend an Orthodox Liturgy.

Coalesco,
thanks for introducing me to the "options". I later read another post about a gentleman in the exact situation who attends an RC church but remains steadfastly EC. And, you're right it is best to follow my convictions and don't worry about howo long I may or maynot be able to attend a church.

Brad, please let us know what happens.Frankly, I don't see why the GO Bishop would allow your daughter to take communion at an EC if a GO (or any Orthodox church is available). But, who knows.

Does anyone else know if this has been allowed before in North America? I know in some Eastern European and Middle Eastern countries going between churches is tolerated or even accepted.

Peace

Brad,

Although I cannot speak for the GO bishop, it is highly unlikely that this would be allowed. Bear in mind, it is totally OK for you to bring your daughter to the Chalice in the GO church, while not receiving the Eucharist yourself. Thing is, I am not sure what message you wish to convey to your daughter. If it is that all religions are the same, that would be unwise. If it is that Daddy loves her and cares enough for her to bring her to her OWN Church, and see that she receives the Body and Blood of Christ, then that is the best way to do this. I am, I confess, quite perplexed by your posts...ISTM that you are the one who is religious in your family, and yet your child was baptized in a Church not your own. confused Family pressure can be great indeed, but do not allow it to confuse your daughter's view of religion. Perhaps if you took her to the GO Church twice a month, her godparents, if they are nearby, would be able to take her for the other two...I pray for you, as this is not an ideal situation.

Gaudior, who realizes that the above may sound harsh, and apologizes for any inadvertant offence.

Gaudior,
No offence at all taken.
In fact I thank you for your advice.
You are correct in saying that I am the one who is religious in my family and I have taken her up to the chalice to receive.
We chose the GO church because of the aesthetics of the ritual.. (guilty as charged) The godmother of our child is the daughter of a GO priest.
I do not intend to teach my daughter that all religions are the same, what I do intend to do is to expose her to both the East (my wife's affiliation) and the West (my affiliation).
It is a very sensitive situation. I understand now, that by going this route, was not ideal.
I guess that by baptizing our next child (God willing) in the Catholic Church would only make matters worse.

Thank you for your prayers,

Brad

If you're near Charleston, come see us one Sunday. We're also online at www.SCMelkites.com. [scmelkites.com.]

I am an EC with no access to an EC parish to attend on a regular basis (unfortunately, there are none in SC). I have been going to a RC church since I've moved to SC.

I can't speak as knowledgably as the others on this forum. I can only go by how I feel after mass is over. I feel much more uplifted after attending an EC mass than the RC one. Personally, I think it has to do with singing the whole mass.

Earl, that URL doesn't work, just wanted to poin that out.

How is Father Titus Fulcher doing with his new parish? Prayers for your evangelical success.

Try it again ... the period at the end of the sentence got it confused:

www.SCMelkites.com [scmelkites.com]

We're doing fine ... getting a new face or two every week, some of whom, like myself, decide to make it their home.

Hopefully, with time, prayer, and work, we will build it into a strong parish which displays the grandeur of our Eastern traditions and faith.
