Perhaps this is the book: A Doctor at Calvary: The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ As Described by a Surgeon [amazon.com] by Pierre Barbet, MD.

You are correct, I was wrong. Getting old seems to have dulled, among other things, my memory. However, I did read that book many decades ago.

In response to those posts offering the book by Dr. Barbet about the Crucifixion in response to Bob's mention here, I believe that Bob actually means the book The Crucifixion of Jesus: A Forensic Inquiry [amazon.com], by Dr. Frederick Zugibe, who is, in fact, a forensic pathologist (as Bob said), who has spent decades studying the Shroud of Turin and conducting experiments. Dr. Zugibe, using modern science, corrects where Barbet went wrong, and affirms where he was right. Here is an article by Dr. Zugibe, Pierre Barbet Revisited [shroud.com], that is extremely interesting, informative, and humbling. It alone is not for the faint of heart and moved me to feel great sorrow for my own sins in contemplating all Christ went through for me.

Here is Dr. Zugibe's website: http://www.crucifixion-shroud.com/

Blessings!
