One has ato be genuinely skeptical when investigating such things. Soon the 'orthodox in communion with Rome' will swallow such things as the 'immaculate conception' debacle, and we know where these things all lead to. Just a timely warning. mik

I agree, I guess I should have been more clear. I just thought it was a neat story coming out of a very hurting land.

Generally, it is observed by many, that the IC model of dogma has elevated the BVM to a status as co-redemptrix beside her Son Christ Jesus. This, as is seen by many, is heresy. When the BV is more revered, has a status of equal honor to, or prayed to more than her Son, then there is a serious problem here. One does not need to be in communion with the Roman Bishop to see that the sky is (generally) blue, either. RCC elitism is proverbial, as is also, Muscovite elitism, in their despicable treatment of Ukrainians, Rusyns, etc, etc.
If one calls oneself Russian Orthodox, one does not necessarily mean that they are actually russian, but, are in communion with the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church of the Russian jurisdiction. I happen to also be of Rus' decent maternally, and by chance of birth was born in a Protestant country. Just because one is Latin does not mean they accept the excesses of the Latin Church, or her representatives, which also applies to the other side of the 1054 infamous split of the Church. One does not have to personally assent to all doctrine of one's respective jurisdiction, just to be a loyal member of Christ's Church here on earth. If one can honestly recite, and mean the Creed (as in Nicene), that person is probably, for certain, a true Christian...would you not say..? No matter their affiliation with apparent ecclesiastical structures. time out...., mik

Hey Mike,

I tried to pm but your box is full.

Like I said, I honestly thought it was a nice story of someones vacation in Hungary. I really did not give much thought to the 'theology' concerned with it.

Sorry for any confusion I have caused for anyone.

Fr Constantine Belisaurius claims that Orthodox do believe in the Immaculate Conception. He offered me some proof but I didnt have time to look.

With all due respect to Fr. Constantine, he's wrong. I suspect that his error arises from the notion that Orthodoxy ascribes to Blessed Augustine's concept of Original Sin, which it does not. On the other hand, I have often found that some Orthodox clergy use terms like "Original Sin" and "Immaculate Conception" rather loosely, equating them with Orthodox teachings. That usually says more about their misunderstanding of Latin theology than that of Orthodoxy.

Croistor,

I have to strongly agree with Papaflessas.

Glory To Jesus Christ!

How can honoring The Holy and Immaculate Blessed Mother, the Theotokos, Matka Boska, Mater Dei, in whatever language or church, who has Queenship in heaven, bore The Saviour of the world, brings us to her Son, and who is joined (in a mysterious way indeed) with God, The Holy and Undivided Trinity, be heresey? I hope, with all due respect, this is not because of The Orthodox position against the supremecy of The Pope in Rome. Our Lady is not to be minimized, but revered. She leads us to her Son, thus, redemption. Seems clear to me. God Bless. - Gv.
