Our Wild Goose - and I am biased in favour of the Wild Goose - writes that "I met the first ever, alphabetically speaking, woman to be ordained a priest in the CoE." Alphabetically speaking? That's possible, but it would mean alphabetizing the entire list of such women and determining whose name begins with A or the closest letter to A, which seems a bit pointless. However, since the attempt to ordain a woman to the presbyterate also seems pointless, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised.

I am unfamiliar with the word "bishopress", which Wild Goose offers. "Bishopess", on the other hand, has been around for at least 40 years and probably longer than that - the Mariavites claimed to produce such a category of person early in the last century.

Besides, it is indisputable that Little Bo-Peep is a shepherdess.

Yes, "priestess" is a term associated with the Enemy. So is the claimed reality which that term designates.

Brothers and Sisters:

I've been sitting back reading the postings to this topic and decided to finally make some sort of response.

My experience here in East Central Mississippi is that when Episcopalians get fed up with something about their church, they rarely gravitate to any other: they just stop going. I've had about 5 families do that during my tenure here (7+ years).

I will also share with you that during my time here, at least 10 persons have been received (rather than confirmed) from the RC Church. Many more that we present for confirmation are either Southern Baptists or Methodists. Most of those RCs who come to us have indicated they were feeling alienated form their parish ---- left for a while and went no where and then showed up on our doorsteps.

A cursory look at my church register shows that about 18 families who are members of this parish are formerly members of St. Patrick's or St. Joseph's RC parishes in our city.

Not trying to muddy the waters but to share my own experience.

BTW, I'm not into prosyletizing Christians who already belong to a church but I am ready to bring them into our fellowship when they show up to worship.

Fr. Mike makes some valid points about Episcopalians simply not going to church anymore when they become frustrated.

Out of the three Episcopalian families that I know, all three were very disturbed by the V. Gene Robinson ordeal a couple years ago.

One family walked the walk and started attending (and still do) a local "Christian" non-denominational church.

One family just stopped going to church altogether.

The last family stopped going to the Episcopal church for a few months, said they would find another church, but basically just stopped going to church at all. The now attend the Episcopal church again occasionally. The father attends the Catholic church sometimes, and the boy (one of my good friends) wants to be Catholic anyway.

A group of Episcopalians here walked out over the ordination of women and formed a conservative parish. A few years later, it converted to Orthodoxy. There is still, I think, a conservative parish here, but I don't know what they left over, since I don't have any contact with them.
