One last thing.....
We even have one African-American parishioner!
She drive about 25 to 30 miles to attend.
At the last annual parish picnic she wore her
"I am proud to be a Byzantine" tee shirt. We had a good laugh together about that.

From the "Black Earth" part of Ukraine, no doubt. But I think I've got that beat, as we have one Filipina and a Chinese family, in addition to the odd Hispanic or three. And as several of our families have adopted children of Indo-Pakistani and Asian origin, I expect in the future the Byzantine Catholics will have to redefine just what "Nas" means.

I would like to suggest that we define 'nas' as anyone who actually shows up to worship in our temples and establishes a spiritual home in our parish communities.

Be thankful that you live THAT close to a Byzantine church. I live 35 minutes away from the nearest Catholic church period, Eastern or Western. Of course, there is no shortage of Baptist churches. smile In fact, we drive 15 minutes just to get to our Methodist church!

"Nas" is anyone who volunteers to wash the dishes after the Lenten dinners.

"Nas".....also anyone who sticks around after St Nicholus dinner and cleans up.

Stuart: your parish does win the piroghi for most diverse. Looks like my parish needs to search out some Asians, etc.

We may be Byzantine, but we are Catholics first.
Catholic meaning universal, all peoples.
