And so what justifiable reason do they give for the murder of thousands upon thousands of Easter Catholics? "oh well they were just uniates anyway".

Sheremet has based his conclusions on unique documents of Arab, Turkish and Kurdish origin, the testimonies of captives, and intelligence data.
Now that sounds objective doesn't it?
Kinda like getting what you know about Americans and Israelies form the objective news sources like Al Jazerra. biggrin

With a comment like that, you show that you are no better than what is portrayed by those in the article frown . Unfortunately it seems that the fanatics, zealots, and those that have a spiritual inferiority complex make these articles, instead of the many that are truly applying their faith and working towards the Kingdom of God. It is very easy to point a finger at one group or another, but this is what continues age-old hatred and distrust. Many seem to be wanting to place themselves in the limelight so that they can feel prideful of their spiritual or historical superiority. Instead it helps continue on the blindness of many "isms", and also "ity" like stupidity.

God calls us to love one another (John 13:34). By losing respect we just give into these people and the seeds that they are sowing, the thorns that will choke out the good.

If you want to help, respect those that are trying to advance the Kingdom of God on both sides. Pray for those that are filled with ignorance and pride, that God will enlighten them and soften their hearts. Remember that on this board, you have a number including myself that are Orthodox Christians. I hope that we in no way portray the attitudes that prevail in this article. The majority of us who are here, pray, teach, and live for the reunion of the Church. This only can happen by understanding and above all prayer.

I hope that you apply this in your life, and not be hasty to judge all, when only a vocal few are at fault. We seem to be rather quick in our society to make these statements. Let us live for the heavenly kingdom, and not for the standards of today's thinking.

In IC XC,
Father Anthony+

I agree on all counts. Such gentle moderation will go well in our fractious world.

Anyway, the subject article is just a layman's opinion - certainly no official position.

Dear Friends,

I'm sure the Vatican had something to do with the Crimean War . . . wink

In front of the building I am in right now are two Russian cannon from the Crimean War that Queen Victoria ordered placed here in 1859.

Anti-Catholic protestant England .Where Catholics still didn't have civil rights .Took advice from the Vatican about starting a war with Russia. Is this the Russian sense of humor?

Who cares, honestly?

Why should such a topic be given any more bandwidth? Let's just drop it since we get these kinds of threads about three times a week and it's always the same story. Nothing new is being said.

I also want to thank you for this post, Father Anthony.

Drew, I'm as Latin as you are, but I dearly agree with Father. We cannot lose hope, nor can we become bitter or prideful.

Until we are willing to cry tears of blood for sins we have not commited, this terrible schism will not end. You and I both know what it is like to be accused of crimes we have not commited simply because we are Catholics, but we cannot respond to them with pride. We must be as Christ is. We must bear the burden of what we have not done, even unto death.
