Thanks Brad!
I got the bid for the 1966 one. So cool!
My husbands was ruined in a bad auto accident we had last year, and he so misses it. The other Bibles never seem to add up. So I will let you know when it arrives.
You sure made my Christmas shopping for him easy!
Opps, hope he never peeks here.

Just a little aside to those Lord of the Rings fans...
My son is really into Tolkien's writings and he was quite surprised when I showed him that J.R.R. Tolkien is listed as one of the editors of the 1966 edition of the Jerusalem Bible. Now I don't think there are any elvish parts in the Bible...but most likely Tolkien was an invaluable help in determining style.

I'm told the other editors nixed him when he wanted to use "Gandalf" for the Hebraic "Michael" in the translation...

IMO, the footnotes of the original version are the best selling/collecting points.

Dear Friends,
What, in your experience, is a proper amount of time that every Christian should give to reading and study of the scriptures?
What would be a good daily minimum amount?

Alex I would say 1/2 hour minimum. 15 minutes go by too fast and you barely get started when you have to stop.

Just a note - the Daughters of St. Paul also sell a compact Jerusalem - it's all the text, but none of the feetnotes. I agree that the feetnotes are a big part of the book, but it's nice to have the compact for travel. The "regular" Jerusalem should come with its own wheeled carry-on bag. I love the Jerusalem, despite it's odd habit of spelling the word pronounced "LORD" as "YAHWEH." Go figure. Cheerz, Sharon (who can't stand the New American - it takes real talent to make sublime poetry clank that badly.)

I guess $3.00 at the thrift store was a good deal then.
God Bless
