Can someone help me find the verses that refer to giving one's talents or gifts freely because these were given freely to them by God? (hope I'm saying this right!)
I seem to remember that from somewhere, but can't find it at any of the online bible sites.

Rose 2:
There are two passages min the Gospels referring to talents: Matthew 25:14-30 and Luke 19: 11-27. I hope that helps.

Thank you Deacon, but those two verses are not it.
The point I'm trying to find is that what God has given us "freely" we in turn should also give to others "freely" because it was not by our efforts that anything was accomplished, but by the Will of God.
Please let me know if any of this rings a bell!

Rose2,
The closest that I can find to freely you have received, freely give is in Matthew 10:8 in his sending the apostles out. Hope this helps.

Thank you Terry, but that's not it either. Somewhere Lord Jesus says that we should give freely (maybe that's not the exact word) or share with others because the Father has given all gifts to us freely. (I'm sure I didn't dream this up .) Still searching .......

I'm having deja vu re: a song. I believe there is a song, perhaps a more contemporary song, sung in the RC church that uses that line. Could this be where you heard it?

Thank for posting Tammy, but no ... there is "somewhere" in scripture where Our Lord says something to the effect of "why would you not give your gifts freely when you received them freely".
STILL searching ....

Nope, that's not it either.....guess I'll just have to wait on the Holy Spirit to show me where to find what I'm looking for in His own time. Meanwhile, I know it's there somewhere. Thanks to all who tried to help . Rose2

Luke 6:38 Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." (NAB)

Luke 6:27-38
It may be the translation you are using of the same verse in 38 as to why you can't find it.
Pani Rpse
27 "Everyone who can hear me. Listen to what I say to you. Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. 28 Speak well of those who spread evil about you. And pray for those who insult you. 29 To the enemy that hits you on the one cheek, show him the other to hit. If an enemy steals your jacket, don't keep your shirt from him. 30 If someone wants something from you, give it freely. If someone borrows something from you, don't ask for it back. 31 Treat people the same way you want them to treat you.
32 "If you just love those who love you back, how does that make you special? For even sinners love those who love them back. 33 If you just do good to those who do good for you, how does that make you special? Sinners do the same thing. 34 And, if you lend money to someone who will pay you back, how does that make you special? Sinners lend money to each other so they will get the money back. 35 So, love your enemies, do good for everyone, and lend freely, but do not expect anything in return. God will give you a great reward. And you will his children. Remember, God is kind to everyone, even those who are ungrateful and evil.
36 "Be kind to everyone, just as God your Father is kind to you. 37 Don't judge others, so God might not judge you. Don't condemn others, so God might not condemn you. Forgive others, so God might forgive you. 38 Give to others freely, and God will do the same for you. What he gives to you will overflow. The way you give is the way you will receive."

Matt 10:8 "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.

Thank you PaniRose, No... that's not what I'm looking for. However, you have a point that it may be the translation I'm looking through. I have a "blue bible" (Ignatius) here at home which is a revised standard edition. Still searching .... Matt 10:8 "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. This is close, as in my bible it reads "You received without pay, give without pay".

May I suggest a website I found a few years ago on the internet:unbound.biola.edu
Pick whatever version is closest to the one you are referencing, and you should find it.
