On Saturday, 26 April 2003, the seminary received the CERTIFICATE OF AUTHORITY from the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education which reads:

"The petition of Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Saints Cyril and Methodius, with registered office at 3605 Perrysville Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15214 in the county of Allegheny, having been duly considered, I grant provisional approval to operate as a degree-granting seminary in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Further, I grant provisional approval to confer the following degrees for the specified program:

Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree,
Program in Ministry

Master of Arts in Theology (M.A.T.) degree, Program in Theology

Given under my hand and seal this 22nd day of April, Two Thousand and Three"

Vicki L. Phillips
Secretary of Education

This is great news for the seminary.

I wish there was some way for us folks in the Midwest to share in the intellectual riches of the seminary.

There is a tremendous hunger and need for a deeper knowledge of Byzantine Christianity in the heartland.

ukipatr, the Stamford and Parma Ukrainian eparchies have diaconal programs in the USA as does Toronto. I completed the Stamford program since our eparchy (Chicago) currently has no program. But we will be working on that when the new bishop comes in wink .

Frs. Andriy Chirovsky and Peter Galadza are primary professors for the Stamford program. Fr. George Appleyard I believe is the director of Parma's, and Fr. Bill Bochar at St. Demetrius in Toronto is the director of the Toronto program.

You can send me a PM if you want more specific material regarding the Stamford Ukrainian Catholic diaconal program. There are several lads from the Pittsburg Ruthenian program here and possibly some from the Melkite program that can speak to those.

The Metropolitan Deacon Program is held at our seminary in Pittsburgh. Fr. John Petro, the rector of the seminary, is also the Director of the deacon studies program. Other eparchies in the Metropolia (Parma and Van Nuys) also participate in the Pittsburgh program.

Are you interested in the diaconate?

Do you mean the 'Eparchy of St. Josaphat' (in Parma)?

Christ is Risen!
The Eparchy of Passaic also has an established diaconal program.
Detailed information is available from the web site of the eparchy.

Dear Cantor Joseph,

If someone had a PhD in sociology, how would that person "measure up" for acceptance for one of these magisterial programs?
