It's official - Patriarch Lubomyr is taking up residence in Kyiv on 21 August, with the blessings of Pope Benedict XVI. Glory to God for all things!

Dear Incognitus,

Glory to God for you, Reverend Sir!

Actually, the only people not happy with that are the leadership of the ROC.

Just as the Union of Brest was accepted in the midst of an atmosphere of esteem for the West at the time, so too today those in Ukraine who look to the West for new ideas on economic development and political freedom see in the UGCC a strong link to western European civilization.

I guess you can't please everybody!

Alex

Dear Alex - trying to please everybody has never been among my ambitions! Alas, I suspect that the Russian Orthodox Church will not be entirely alone in protesting the Patriarch's change of residence.

However, the party invitation sounds interesting. I take it that BYOB is an acronym for Bring Your Own Bible.

Grand Prince Volodymyr the Great who baptized Rusyns of Ukraine and all of Rus in 988 had his relics returned to Kiev yesterday from Muscovy (see picture below). The Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church will be returning next month after over 400 years of exile.

We most certainly do live in very interesting times.

The UGCC and Patriarch Husar will be playing a pivotal role in the future of Ukraine, the rest of Eastern Europe and of Apostolic Christianity. How pivotal is something only God knows.

So with the Patriarch the moving to Kyiv, does this mean that the UGCC will have to install a Metropolitan for L'viv?

I think it will make sense since the Patriarchate will be in Kyiv now, so a new Metrpolitan will be need for L'viv/Halych.

To the best of my limited knowledge, the relics of Saint Vladimir were lost a few centuries back, during some war or other.

Sorry Incog, I meant the Prince Volodomyr, his relics, the ones they returned the other day, per the link above. My fault for not spelling right!!

People call Volodymyr a Prince, but he was King IMO.

He was the main ruler, he should have the Title of King. All of this Prince, and Princess titles for the rules of Kyivan-Rus, in my opinion, is belittling to their impact on the nation, and is probbably a tool of Russian Propoganda to belittle the Ukrainian people.

Saint Volodymyr, King and High Ruler of Kyivan-Rus and Equal-to-the-Apostles, Pray for us.

Uhm. He certainly was the supreme ruler of his state, but let's not get carried away with names. His state was a principality - the head of which is a prince. Calling him by his proper title in no way diminishes his dignity or belittles him.
