A helicopter was shot down in Iraq today killing 16 U.S. troops and wounding 21. This has been the bloodiest day since the war started. Let us all pray for the souls of the troops and civilians killed, the wounded, their families and for peace.

In Christ,
Anthony

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on all of our soldiers and their families. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. For the families of those who have lost their lives in this terrible tradegdy find their rest in you Jesus. Most Holy Theotokos pray for them.

In your charity, please remember the family of SSgt Ernest Bucklew. He was one of those killed in Iraq on the helicopter.

He was on his way home to Point Marion, PA to bury his mother who died of a brain anurysm (sp) on Friday.

I happened to be in Uniontown,PA, about 10 miles from Point Marion, this weekend when word of this came across.

He leaves a wife, children, father and brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins to mourn him and his mother...

Eternal Memory.....

I join you and others in fervent prayer for the citizen-soldiers who have, again and again, demonstrated their courage to offer the ultimate sacrifice for OUR sake and for their respective families, whose grief could be unconsolable.

Special prayers go to SSgt. Ernest Bucklew, his mother, and to the entire family, and to the pilot of that Chinook transport helicopter, a "gentle giant" as his father tearfully remembers, who hails from Genoa, Illinois, some 50 miles northwest of Chicago.

God, let there be peace!

May St George the Trophy-Bearer, St Theodore the Recruit and St Theodore the General lead the souls of these soldiers to the Kingdom of Heaven that is "taken by force."

As a person who has a nephew who is a company commander of 144 men who operate a convoy supplying fuel to the troops in Iraq, I ask that we pray for both those who are gone and those who remain in combat.

My nephew has been over there almost a year now and has been extended until April (he was supposed to come back this month)

He has lost thirty pounds since he arrived there. Said its 120 degrees during the day and goes down to 98 degrees in the night.

He worries constantly for his troops because they were a reserve unit and, because of the Clinton cutbacks, are not properly trained for the combat situation they have been put in.

Because, as I have stated, they are a convoy that supplies fuel, they are constantly being attacked and ambushed. So please remember the servant of God Gary and his men in those prayers.

OrthoMan

P.S. I have promised him dozens of pierogi's and holupki's when he returns to put that weight back on. You can get them right from the internet at -

http://www.pierogiesplus.com/

I've had them sent to me and they are great! In addition to the potato I like the cabbage and cabbage/kielbasa filled one's.

May the Lord grant to Gary and to all of our defenders a quick and safe return to us.

May He protect them while they are doing what must be done.

Dear Orthoman,

Your nephew and his colleagues are at the CENTRE of all our praying hearts!

He has an uncle who is also very close to the Heart of Christ and whose prayer is, I know, powerful with God.

As for your excellent perogie site - well, having seen it and your own enthusiasm for true Orthodox food which I share with you - what else is really necessary to establish full communion between us? smile

I can't imagine a great deal . . .

God bless you, Sir, and comfort your heart in your love for your nephew.

We will undertake to shoulder the Cross you carry now.

Your servant,

Alex
