Dear Friend,
The Ukrainian poet, Taras Shevchenko, once wrote about an army officer who went to the outskirts of Kyiv to kill himself.
As he looked up, he saw the domes of the Churches of that city.
He then began to cross himself, over and over, and finally the temptation of the evil one to commit suicide left him.
An Orthodox priest once wrote a letter to his spiritual daughter who was sorely tempted to commit suicide.
When all else failed, he resorted to frightening her with what lay in store for her in the next life.
He said, "Demons of the ugliest, most vile kind would await you etc."
Reverses of fortune, lack of direction in life etc. shouldn't be seen as failure on our part.
Our task in life is to adore and love God, to live in the excitement of a dynamic relationship with Him.
That is the most important and really the only important thing.
Rather than think about suicide, let us give our lives to God right now to do with us as He wills.
Let us sacrifice our lives to Him daily and at every moment, asking Him to transform us and unite us to Him forever.
If God is for us, who can be against us?
Alex
