I ask the forum faithful for their prayers for my husband. He is only 41 years old and because of untreated Perthes Disease as a child he has excruciating hip pain daily. He is not a candidate for replacement because there is little bone left on which to secure the prosthesis. He continues to work daily in his little machine shop ( he stubbornly refuses to consider lighter work - and he is a toolmaker with considerable design and fabricating talent) and he rarely complains but this last year he has stopped many activities he once loved. He can't go with the kids many places because he can't walk and because so much of his mental energy is taken up with dealing with the pain he withdraws at times and becomes very quiet. After so many years of pain and so many disappointing visits to specialists who say that they can't help him "yet" (we assume "yet" means while he still wishes to be mobile) he has become very discouraged. I am a nurse and am now seeking a referral to a pain clinic where I hope he can get some help- maybe if they can't fix the hips they can at least deal with the pain. Pray that he is able to keep his spirits up and not become despondant about not being the kind of dad and husband he thinks he isn't. (we all think he is) Much thanks, Glenna

Glenna, We will put your husband one our prayerlist tonight and remember him daily, but I would appreciate it if you could give just his Christian name so we can him personally. We will also pray for Glenna...that you have all the strength and courage that YOU need during all of this difficult time.

Lovingly in Christ,
+Fr. Gregory

Glenna,

My prayers for your husband, that he will be relieved of his pain, that some means be found that will restore a measure of mobility to him, that he be able to understand that his value to you and his children is not measured by his ability to participate physically in things as much as by his love and caring for them, which it sounds as though is undiminished and fully appreciated and realized by everyone but him because of his frustration.

I have not heard reference made to Legg-Perthes Disease in many years and it is too bad that your husband's was untreated in his youth, since by the time of his childhood years pediatric orthopedic surgeons were employing surgical and physical therapy regimens for the condition that demonstrated excellent results in the long run.

Many years,

Neil

We are praying for ANDREW daily now. May the Lord sustain him and may the Most Holy Mother of God help him to carry this heavy cross!
