I would ask your prayers for a safe journey. On Saturday, I depart for Anchorage and several other cities in Alaska to do some trainings on infectious diseases and workplace protocols on how to prevent their transmission to working folks.
I am honestly somewhat afraid about the epidemic of SARS (Serious Acute Respiratory Syndrome) that has affected more that 2000 people and has killed around 60 folks; my plane is on the route from DC to Minneapolis/StPaul and then Anchorage, Seoul, and Narita (Japan) and it is currently unclear about the role of 'recycled' air in the planes as an agent of transmission.
Please remember me in your prayers as I spend a lot of time in jets cruising back and forth from East Asia to Alaska and North America.
Blessings to all!

Many prayers. I would be more than a bit afraid of SARS - my understanding is that they have no idea how it is transmitted. A very happy thought Come back safely - and well. May Our Blessed Lady, Mary ever virgin, keep you in Her most tender care. Anhelyna

Dear Dr. John: May I add my prayers for your safe journey in providing assistance to the needy. Recycled air in a plane could be one of the best facilitators for the transmission of SARS. A WHO Regional Director was shown on TV the other day explaining a theory of some investigators that the recorded cases in that Hong Kong tenement complex were somewhat limited to an imaginary cube involving a strata of floors, i.e., it seemed probable that there was "vertical contamination" which could have been facilitated by the building's air ducts. To strenthen your immune system, sample some halibut steaks while you are in Alaska. AmdG

John - My prayers will be with you during your journey. I've been to Anchorage to visit my brother; if you've never been there before, you'll be pleasantly surprised! I'll pray that you stay well. - Miriam

ALASKA! The Last Frontier!
I understand there is one Eastern Catholic Church in Alaska: St. Nicholas in Anchorage. (Ruthenian) I hope you get to visit it while you are traveling!
I hope you have a safe and wonderful trip. And I hope you can help make our planet a safer and healthier place for everyone.

May the Lord God grant His blessings to those who offered prayers and postings on my behalf.
I have not had any subsequent worries about SARS. Now, it is just the trip home. Please continue to pray for me.
Blessings!

May the Lord in His mercies grant special blessings to those who offered prayers on my behalf on my journey to Alaska. I am very grateful to each and all who both posted prayer and those who offered prayers in their hearts.
I am now home. I was, thanks be to God, not exposed to SARS. Although, I learned a lesson. During my last days in Anchorage and Kenai, I started coughing violently and developed a fever and malaise. Though it was not (thanks be to God!) SARS, it was the worst bronchial infection I'd had in a dozen years and my first three days home, I was seriously bedridden - not something that happens to me at all. I realized: Be careful what you pray for; it may come to pass. Although I was concerned about SARS and asked for prayers about it, I should have asked for prayers for "good health". They would have been more efficacious.
Again, I thank ALL who remembered me in their prayers. May the Lord of Creation be as generous in His blessings to You as you were to me. Your kind words of prayer and blessing were a comfort to me as I boarded each plane. "All who call upon the Name of the Lord will be saved."
Thanks be to God, and to my blessed friends for their prayers.
Blessings!
