Fr. George Maloney, formerly S.J., passed into eternal life on July 19th. Blessed repose and eternal memory.

He had come into communion with the ACROD/Ecumenical Patriarchate in his later days and the burial was at Sts. Joseph and Andrew Orthodox Cemetary in Candler, NC.

I think most here know something of his distinguished career including studies at the Russicum and Orientalium as well as his prolific writing. Several of his books including Bright Sadness and his book on the Jesus Prayer were influential in my own spiritual journey. So svyaimij upokoi, Christe, vichnaja pamjat.

may Father Maloney rest in peace. I enjoyed reading his works, he was well known in Roman and in Russian Catholic circles.I thought him a great writer.

Yes, likewise, I really enjoyed his works. I have used his work Invaded by God for women who are raising sons by themsleves. In one the chapters he talks about God's relationship with the boy who does not have a father, and the difference in their communication. Whenever, I come across one of his books I buy it, because I will always run into someone who needs that book. biggrin Glory to God!

I did not know he became Orthodox.

May his memory be eternal, may he rest where the just repose+

May the Lord God grant to his servant the priest +George, blessed repose! May his memory be eternal!

I began reading Father's books as a teenager (some years ago now), and they were a great help to me. May God reward him for his great and generous service to the Church!

I was very sad to read about the falling asleep of Fr. George Maloney. His books were of great help to me in my spiritual growth.

I attended several of his seminars while I was attending the Institute of Formative Spirituality at Duquesne University. Fr. George was the first to teach me the Jesus Prayer and how to syncronize it with my breathing.

Eternal Memory !

Does anyone know the reasons behind Fr. George's decision to become Orthodox? Did he publish anything about it, or was he interviewed anywhere about it? Everyone I've talked to, who were all familiar with his work (I was myself reading his book on Nil Sorus this summer), was completely shocked by this development. I can't say I blame him: either he joined Orthodoxy or he was forced into heterodoxy in the Wisconsin province of the Society of Jesus! I have yet to hear good things about them.

Eternal Memory for Fr. Maloney. His books on prayer, e.g. Prayer of the Heart , first introduced me to the spirituality of Eastern Christianity over twenty years ago.

Eternal Memory to Fr. George Maloney!

(And if I were still surrounded by the Latin Catholics of my youth, I would probably become Orthodox too!)

I add my prayers for Fr. Maloney.

May he NOW rest in peace!
