GREEK ORTHODOX PROPOSE OLYMPIC TRUCE FOR 2004

ATHENS, Greece, JUNE 7, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Greek Orthodox Church leaders hope the Athens Olympic Games of 2004 will be held under the
ancient "Olympic Truce," whereby armed conflicts cease during the sports competitions.

Orthodox sources told the ENI news agency that the truce could be extended throughout the year 2004, not just during the Games.

A plan for the truce will be presented in September, an Orthodox Church leader told ENI. Officials hope the initiative has particular benefit for the Balkans.

I just hope the 'Olympic Truce' holds during the Greek/Turkish javelin throw and archery competitions. [Linked Image]
