A Prayer for those who have lost a child by miscarriage or very young
Lord, You know the pain of the human condition because You walked it Yourself. You know all of what it means to be human except for sin. You give to us in marriage children to shepherd, to guide, to train in the Faith, but most of all to love. When you give us married people the anticipation of a new life, we are filled with the joy of anticipation and we are lead to dream of what this child who is coming to us will be. When the child is called back to You before we think he should be, we are filled with sorrow at the void. We know how precious human life is both in anticipation and loss because we are, at the deepest levels of our being, moved to know that this nascent life is real and it is a gift from You.
Grant to those of us who have lost a child, whether by miscarriage, or in childbirth, or thereafter, Your comfort. The loss of a child fills us with grief and reminds us of the fragility of our hopes and dreams in this world. In the darkness of grief, come and enlighten us with the promises of the Holy Gospel. Shine into our grief and help us to pick up the cross You give us and help us to understand that it is for our salvation, even when we cannot understand why. Strengthen our faith even as we think it is shattered and destroyed. Show us Your love and Your kindness.
At the prayers of our Most Holy, Most Pure, Most Blessed and Ever-Glorious Lady, the Mother of God, who is by Your gracious gift from the Cross, our Mother, of all the saints who enjoy perfect communion with You and who pray continuously for us, O Lord, hear and answer our pleas as we grieve the loss of children. AMEN.

AMEN! Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen....

Prayers, indeed, for the parents and their child. Losing a child is an incomperable sorrow---but even that sorrow, may our good God turn to comfort for those who mourn. Several years ago when I lost our last child at birth I was standing at the Christmas liturgy and was suddenly not there, but in my mind's eye was on my death bed--and surrounding me were the children I had lost including the most recent--and all were praying for me. I could tangibly feel their prayers and their presence. God is so good. May this couple know the joy of their child in the presence of God. Blessings Alice
