Just got my copy of Horizons and was surprised to see on the front page a married priest from Presov is joining the Parma diocese. biggrin Father Marek Visnovsky and his wife Miriam are staying in an apartment at the cathedral rectory. Father is serving as parochial vicar at Holy Spirit parish in Parma.

According to the article the Presov eparchy is loaded with priests so he came here to help with our shortage of priests. Who knows, maybe more to come in the near future? Maybe even native born American candidates who are married?

My understanding is that one of the current seminarians representing the Eparchy of Parma is, indeed, a married man.

It's good to see this. Married priests are part of our traditions, and we don't owe the Latins any apologies for that. A priest with a good marriage and family life is an excellent example to all the married people in the congregation.

Well I will add my old addage:
Get over it and get on with it!
The New Code for the Eastern Churches recognizes the right to married clergy.
So you need your Bishops to be courageous leaders and ordain married candidates, it it that simple.
No more whinning please.

Rome I = Rome
Rome II = Constantinople
Rome III - Moscow
Rome IV = Pittsburgh

So they clearly have the authority. Did I get the order right, Diak? biggrin biggrin biggrin

IV is Kyiv, V is Philadelphia, then Pittsburg, Canton...

The PM is the last Greek Catholic church in the USA to re-admit married clergy. Long overdue.

But bringing in "imports" also has its difficulties, with cultural, linguistic, and sometimes economic hardships for clergy families as the experience of the UGCC and Romanian eparchies has shown. Native married clergy is, of course, the norm that should be aspired to.
