Your prayers are requested for the peaceful repose and eternal memory of a great liturgist and personal friend, Father Aidan Kavanagh, OSB, who fell asleep in the Lord last Sunday. He had bi-ritual faculties and occasionally served in the Melkite Church. He was a bit of a curmudgeon and always spoke quite frankly, because, I think, he loved the Liturgy and the people who pray the Liturgy. My favorite quote is from his book, Elements of Rite, in which he speaks about pews, "pews are never mentioned in Roman rubrics, nor is there any record that being without pews has ever killed Christians in significant numbers."

Oh Father David. I hadn't heard till just now. That is so very wonderful a passage for Father Aidan and such a sorrow for those left behind. You were fortunate to know him up close. I will always find him in his books and perhaps someday in life everlasting, God willing.

Eternal memory!

Eli
