Please pray for Jonathan's close friend Chanc (pronounced "Chance"), who died this past week of what may have been an overdose of pain-killers. Jonathan is the teenage son of my co-worker Jack, and Jonathan and Chanc were teammates on their high school baseball team.

Oh Christ our God and Lover of Mankind, have mercy on the soul of Chanc and grant to his family and the family of his friend Jonathan Your peace.

+Eternal Memory,

Sam

Christ is risen!! Indeed He is risen!!!

Sam:

Please extend to Chanc's family and your coworker's son, Jonathan, my profound sympathy and promise of prayers, both for the repose of Chanc and for the healing and comfort of him and his family.

Whenever I see this type of thing, it tears my heart out. I can't tell you how many parents I have sat with facing a dead young man or woman in a casket in this or similar circumstances. I, too, am a parent and know that there is a great deal of oneself invested in one's children. To lose one is a loss that I can only compare to having a limb torn off and having the patient still be alive. The pain, the shock, the numbness--it's all there.

Lord, have mercy on the soul of your brother, Chanc, and embrace him as he comes to meet you face to Face. Grant him a merciful judgment and place him among those you find worthy of Your Wedding Feast in the Kingdom. Grant to Chanc's family a turning to You in their pain, shock, and grief that they might find, in this life, healing, and, in the life to come, a place next to Chanc to praise You forever and ever. AMEN.

Grant, also, Lord, to Chanc's friend, Jonathan, the grace to turn to You so that he and his friends may have You to help them cope with the trials and questions of life as they go on with their pilgrim journey. AMEN.
