Antiphon of Matins on Great and Holy Friday

Today is hung upon the Tree, He who suspended the land in the midst of the waters. A crown of thorns crowns Him, Who is the King of the angels. He is wrapped about with the purple of mockery, Who wrapped the heavens with clouds. He receives buffetings, Who freed Adam in the Jordan. He was transfixed with nails, Who is the Bridegroom of the Church. He was pierced with a spear, Who is the Son of the Virgin.
We worship Thy Passion, O Christ.
We worship Thy Passion, O Christ.
We worship Thy Passion, O Christ.
Show us also Thy glorious Resurrection.

* The noble Joseph, having taken Thy most pure Body down from the Wood, and having wrapped It in clean linen and sweet spices, laid It for burial in a new tomb.

* When Thou didst descend unto death, O Deathless Life, then didst Thou slay Hades with the lightning of Thy Godhead. And when Thou didst raise the dead out of the nethermost depths, all the powers in the Heavens cried out: O Life-Giver, Christ our God, glory be to Thee.

* Unto the myrrh-bearing women did the Angel cry out as he stood by the grave: Myrrh-oils are meet for the dead, but Christ hath proved to be a stranger to corruption.

A blessed and holy Pascha to all of my brothers and sisters who will celebrate it this week.

Many years,

Neil

....but it has nothing to do with the Julian Calendar, it is a difference in when the Paschal Sunday should fall! Western date: first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. Eastern date: first Sunday after the Jewish Passover.

We who celebrate the date of Pascha today rejoice:

CHRISTOS ANESTI! ALITHOS ANESTI!

CHRIST IS RISEN! TRULY HE IS RISEN!

Christ is risen from the dead,
by death He is trampling down death,
and to those in the tombs,
He is granting life.

May the Sacramental Churches of our Lord soon gather around the Throne of Grace at the same time shouting the Pascha - Christ is Risen From the Dead!

Just found this:

In the 15-minute appearance, Benedict, wearing a white cassock, issued a call for continued efforts to bridge the gap between Catholics and Orthodox.

Wishing "from the heart" a happy Easter to Orthodox Christians, Benedict said that God "is asking us to travel decisively down the path toward full unity."

Thank you Holy Spirit!

Oh awesome and Life Giving Holy Spirit do not leave us to our own understandings, but lead us into the splendor of a united faith in the Triune God. That together we will pray as One Body in the Lord, not a divided church. Amen.

Dear Pani Rose,

My in-laws were none too pleased that His Holiness only made reference to the "Orthodox Easter."

But, no fear.

I just told them to be quiet, however.

I just can't stand it when someone is whining about the Pope during Holy Week . . .

To all of those who celebrate this week - a Holy and Happy Pascha.

Christ is risen! Indeed, He is risen.

Resurrection is something it would behove us all to celebrate every week. In a way we do that by celebrating the Divine Liturgy.

Yes...He has died. + He is risen. ^ He will come again in His Glory. \o/

smile
