On this the 25th year of his Petrine Ministry, may the Lord grant His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, the strength and perseverance in leading, as Supreme Pontiff, the Universal Church into the 3rd millenium.

Amen!

May His Holiness live to be a hundred - and more!

Sto Liat!

In six months from now, he will have beaten yet another record for papal longevity and will become the third longest reigning Bishop of Rome.

The next record was set by Leo XIII (?) and is one of over 31 years.

The longest is said to be Peter the Apostle.

I usually don't pay much attention to news stories about the Pope's health because they've been predicting his imminent demise for about 20 years now - however, this one can't be too easily dismissed:

Dear Dolly,

Well, if we ourselves had to deal with the kind of problems the Holy Father has on his hands, we'd probably feel sick to our stomachs too!

Having briefly met him, I think I know that he has a steel will and will only allow his body to complain so much.

After that, he will just give a papal order and will expect his body to up and obey!

Dear Dolly,

Well, if you are ever elected "papessa," and you choose the name "Joan," some will argue that you should be called "Pope Joan II." smile

I read an interesting book on Pope Pius XII and a Mother Superior who was particularly close to him as an advisor and friend.

Around the Vatican, she was called "Papessa!" smile
