This story probably 'rings a bell' for many Ukrainian Byzantine Catholics. Things don't change very much...
From "Tserkovnia Vedomosti Russkia Istinno-Pravoslavnia Tserkve" (Lazarites).
20 April, 2006. Great Thursday. A group of Cossacks, supporters of the MP headed by the priest of the MP from the church of the Smolensk icon of the Mother of God, Vladimir Gusev, attacked the church of the Holy Royal Martyrs of the Omsk-Siberian diocese of the Russian True Orthodox Church.
Having forcibly ejected from the church the stanitsa ataman and the parishioners of the RTOC, the MP bandits headed by Fr. Vladimir Gusev in the sight of all trashed the church and took out of it all the utensils, holy vessels, icons, the altar cross, the plaschanitsa, the vestments, the service books, the candles, wine and other property belonging to the True Orthodox parish and personally to its rector, Fr. Victor Babitsyn. Fr. Vladimir said he was doing this at the orders of the MP archbishop Vincent.

Dear Father Mark, Christos Anesti! Welcome back after a much too long hiatus! Regarding the article, I may only be Greek Orthodox, but in my humble opinion, such abomonation and display of arrogance of brother towards brother is not only sheer nonsense, but the hurt inflicted is greater to God than it is to each other. However, since we are taught not to judge, and rather than entertain any 'logismoi' let us pray: May our Lord have mercy on us all! In the Risen Christ, Alice

I have held the thought for some years, that the only thing that has kept Christianity from succeeding throughout the world, has been the Christians ourselves. We are too busy fighting with each other to unite and tackle our common enemies. Lord have mercy is right.

Now, now. Napoleon once leered menacingly at the Pope and said "Do you realize, Your Holiness, that I have it in my power to destroy the Catholic Church?"
The Pope sighed, and answered "Majesty, even we priests have never quite succeeded in doing that!"

Welcome back. I understand that you had the same problem I had: computer demons kept me from logging onto the forum.
On the thread topic: if this is true, what action will the MP synod take to correct this bishop who has his priests out acting like vandals?

A quote by Bishop Kallistos Ware from the book, 'Gifts of the Desert' by Kyriacos C. Markides, that I think would be of interest here:
"Now that Communism has fallen," Bishop Kallistos said, "shouldn't we Orthodox ask pardon from the Eastern Catholics for the immense suffering that was inflicted on them after the Second World War and for the way we Orthodox profited from this?
When Communism fell, should we not have taken the initiative in restoring their churches to them? Could there not have been, from the side of both Orthodox and Eastern Catholics, an act of mutual pardon and forgiveness? a great opportunity was lost."

Zenovia I remember reading this. Thank you for posting it. May God bless the integrity of Bishops like Kallistos Ware. Eis pola eti despota! In the Risen Christ, Alice

It is news like this which reminds me why I did not become Orthodox not in communion with Rome despite my love of Orthodoxy.

It's threads like this that remind me why I don't automatically believe everything said on the Internet. I searched for the news story and found no other mention of it, except on something called the "The Saint Euphrosynos Cafe Message Board". Andrew

There are divisions in scandals in all churches. I suppose we could do nothing but discuss them or post stories about them. Regardless of whether or not those stories are true, false or some combination of truth, rumor and untruth.
I also don't think it would be appreciated if in threads discussing scandals in the Catholic Church, which I've seen on this board, for there to be Orthodox posters who chime in with comments like "that's why I'm not a Catholic". At least I don't believe it would be appreciated (or helpful).

Brian and Rilian,
You are correct. I apologize. I do wish though that more Orthodox would take Jesus' prayer for unity more seriously. I long for the day when priests won't organize scandalous marches against a pope's visit. I believe you probably share this hope with me.

Andrew Andrew, Once againI agree with you! It isn't helpful, but we're on a public forum and many different points of view will be made. I agree, let's not put any more scandalous stories out just to say that's why I'm not _______.

Dear Rilian, Father (Hieromonk) Mark is a convert to Orthodoxy just like you. He also resides in England and is in close contact with these groups. He would not post something like this if he thought that it was only gossip. I am sure that he meant no harm by posting it. In Christ, Alice P.S. If he hadn't posted it, how else would we have come across the edifying, objective and humble comments of Bishop Kallistos Ware which Zenovia posted?
