Dear Brian:
Despite the sordid state of the US economy, education should not share the brunt of budget cutting by States.
Currently, this is a BIG issue here in Illinois.
You being relatively young, I am hopeful that a better (if not more exciting) job awaits on the horizon!

May the Lord grant you peace in this trial. Unlike other jobs, education is a vocation, a real calling that is in the blood. And being laid off is truly painful.
May the Lord lead you back to service of the young and the learners. And may they give you a salary that you deserve.
