Dear Friends,
Happy Feastday of St Michael the Archangel, Commander of the Bodiless Hosts of Heaven tomorrow!
He is a special patron of Ukraine, as for four hundred years, his icon (rather than the trident) was the emblem of Ukraine and Kyiv (where He still is the patron).
A friend recently visited St Michael's Orthodox Cathedral in Kyiv and brought me back an Orthodox rosary.
It looked just like an RC rosary, but was with wooden beads on a cord (with the introductory beads and all).
St Michael is also patron of Toronto and of our police and of my College.
It snowed in Moscow and elsewhere - the saying is that St Michael always "rides in on a white horse" (ie. when it snows).

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day of Battle; Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke Him, we humbly pray, and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the other evil spirits, who prowl through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Protect us from all evil and pride O Captain of the Holy Bodliless Powers and guard our lives until we reach our heavenly homeland, and once there may we enjoy with you the vision of His glory in Paradise forever!

THE CHAPLET OF ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
Background
Saint Michael, appearing one day to Antonia d� Astonac, a most devout Servant of God, told her that he wished to be honored by nine salutations corresponding to the nine Choirs of Angels, which should consist of one Our Father and 3 Hail Marys in honor of each of the Angelic Choirs.
PROMISES OF ST. MICHAEL
Whoever would practice this devotion in his honor would have, when approaching the Holy Table, an escort of nine angels chosen from each of the nine Choirs. In addition, for the daily recital of these nine salutations, he promised his continual assistance and that of all the holy angels during life, and after death deliverance from Purgatory for themselves and all their relations.
METHOD OF RECITING THE CHAPLET
This chaplet is begun by saying the following invocation on the medal:
O God, come to my assistance! O Lord, make haste to help me! Glory be...
Say one Our Father & 3 Hail Marys after each of the following nine salutations in honor of the nine Choirs of Angels:
1) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Seraphim, may the Lord make us worthy to burn with the fire of perfect charity. Amen.
2) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Cherubim, may the Lord vouchsafe to grant us grace to leave the ways of wickedness to run in the paths of Christian perfection. Amen
3) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Thrones, may the Lord infuse into our hearts a true and sincere spirit of humility. Amen.
4) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Dominions, may the Lord give us grace to govern our senses and subdue our unruly passions. Amen.
5) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Powers, may the Lord vouchsafe to protect our souls against the snares and temptations of the devil. Amen.
6) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Virtues, may the Lord preserve us from evil and suffer us not to fall into temptation. Amen.
7) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Principalities, may God fill our souls with a true spirit of obedience. Amen.
8) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Archangels, may the Lord give us perseverance in faith and in all good works, in order that we gain the glory of Paradise. Amen.
9) By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Angels, may the Lord grant us to be protected by them in this mortal life and conducted hereafter to eternal glory. Amen.
Say one Our Father in honor of each of the following leading Angels: St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, our Guardian Angel.
The chaplet is concluded with the following prayers:
O glorious prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the Divine King and our admirable conductor, thou who dost shine with excellence and superhuman virtue, vouchsafe to deliver us from all evil, who turn to thee with confidence, and enable us by thy gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day.
V. Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ!
R. That we may be made worthy of His promises!
Prayer
Almighty & Everlasting God, who by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all people has appointed the most glorious Archangel St. Michael Prince of Thy Church, make us worthy, we beseech Thee, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into the august presence of Thy Divine Majesty. This we beg through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Glorious St. Michael, Prince of the heavenly Hosts you are ever ready to assist the people of God. You fought against the dragon, the old serpent, and cast him out of heaven and you now valiantly defend the Church of God so the gates of hell may never prevail against Her. I earnestly entreat you to assist me also in the painfull and dangerous conflict I must sustain against the same formidable foe. Be with me, O mighty Prince, that I may courageously fight and wholly vanquish that proud spirit whom you by divine Power, have overthrown, and whom our powerfull King, Jesus Christ in our nature, so completely over came. Then triumphing over the enemy of my salvation, I may, with you and the holy angels, praise the clemency of God who, though refuseing mercy to the rebellious angels after their fall, has granted me repentence and forgiveness to fallen man. Oh, St. Raphael, Medicine of God, Angel of happy meetings, of peace and joy, we beseech thee, cure our infirmities of soul and body in virtue of divine blood, source of all healing graces.St. Raphael, you were sent by God to guide young tobiah in choosing a good and virtuous spouse. Please help me in this important choice which will effect my whole future. You not only directed Tobiah in finding a wife, but you also gave him guidelines which should be foremost in every Christian marriage: "Pray together before making important decisions." If through prayer we keep God as the "third partner" in our marriage we will have the strength and grace we need to always accept and do His Will. Amen

Thanks Fr. Gregory,
I was introduced to this Chaplet of St. Michael around 1970 and have prayed it every day since then. Of course it's burned into my mind and soul so I can recite it by heart! How many times have the angels rescued me from danger, temporal and spiritual! For instance, a drunken driver crashing into the rear end of my car at high speed, the drivers door opened and I flew out, landing on the side of the road without a scratch! The car went down the road by itself and I had to run after it to stop it, funny scene!!!
Another time I was driving an 18 wheeler in Virgina and lost my brakes, flying through the toll-plaza. No cars were there even though it was 2pm. The toll clerk said it was a miracle! She almost fainted when I came through the plaza at 50 mph.
I know that the Holy Angels protected me at these and so many other times.
One last thing, and I'm no mystic, but about two years ago after driving 1500 miles non-stop to reach a special destination, I was greeting with clouds in the sky in the shape of angels. It was such a beautiful sight I almost cried, but I certainly couldn't stop thanking God for this signal grace!!!
May St. Michael and all 9 choirs of the Holy Angels guide and protect us all!

To light, to guard, to rule and to guide.
