This morning, the State of Ohio will execute John W. Byrd, Jr. There is no doubt that he took some part in the robbery. There is doubt about whether or not he committed the murder - to which another man has repeatedly confessed.
Please pray for the victim & his family, for the soul of Mr. Byrd and his family, and all of us in this state who will bear some guilt for his death this morning.

Thank you for bringing this issue here in the way you have.
"Vengeance is mine says the Lord," Scripture reminds us.
May God receive the soul of His prisoner today and bless his family through the prayers of St Dismas the Good Thief.
May He speak to the hearts of legislators everywhere and turn them from the evil of capital punishment.

This bothers me. The commandments say: "thou shalt not kill". Although I too can become really angry about a crime, I cannot allow myself to exact retribution in the form of blood. May the Lord bless the soul of the man who is executed; may He also come to the family of the victim and help them achieve peace. And may the Lord come to our society and help us be loving and forgiving people.
Lord, have mercy.
