May the Lord protect them, and allow them to safely evacuate the areas that will be hardest hit by this storm (now a Category five hurricane).
May He be with them when they return to face the wreckage of their homes, schools, churches, and places of business. May He protect them from disease and death.
Lord, have mercy!
Gaudior, in prayer

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/205423.shtml?3day I'd like to add my prayers for Charles, in TN, and for all the others who are in the path of Hurricane Katrina. Charles, have you laid in enough chocolate rations for five days? Gaudior, astonished at how far inland this storm will be felt.

I appreciate your prayers, but we are surrounded by mountains and usually only get lots of rain from these hurricanes. Knoxville is in a valley 900 feet above sea level, but is surrounded on all sides by mountains. I am sure there will be some flooding near the rivers, but the mountains usually wipe out the high winds before they get to us. I feel blessed. It's those people south of us in the low-lying areas I am most worried about. Prayers for all who may be hit by this storm. Yes, I have enough chocolate stored to outlast almost any crisis.

Rose, our Pani Rose, is in Birmingham. I don't know if this storm will track near her, but she is much, much closer to it than I am.

Yes....I'm glad you're safe, but we've quite a few people too close for comfort...
Gaudior, in prayer for them...

Prayers especially for the Crescent City, and the people of Louisiana and Mississippi who feel this particularly hard right now.
Prayers also for all of my brothers and sisters in the pathway, wherever you are!
Lord have mercy!
May the Holy Theotokos pray for all!

Katrina's "eye" slightly veered to just East of New Orleans and wrecked havoc on coastal cities of Mississippi and Alabama!
But being a Category 5 Hurricane, Katrina's mega force devastated large swaths of land, including New Orleans and Louisiana just to the West. From a 175 MPH sustain winds to about 125-130 MPH upon landfall, weathermen agree that Katrina is the strongest since Camille hit the same gulf area in 1969.
Devastation extent will take at least a week for us to know and I join in prayer for all the Churches on Katrina's pathway.
With this latest natural tragedy, Chicago's gasoline prices just edged California's to become the most espensive in the nation and some predict prices for regular will breach $3.00/gallon by weekend.
Ray's dire predictions might just happen!

Thank you for your prayers. We are about 3 1/2 hours away from Mobile. If you are watching Fox News right now, Tuscaloosa is about an hour away. We will start getting the storm about 4pm today. All the schools have closed and such. It has been downgraded to category 2, so what we are going to get will be mild compared to so many others.
I got so mad today, they said a woman was hollering out her second floor window for help that she had three kids there. I am sorry for her, but oh my those innocent children. I just don't understand. A woman was rescued with five children who were standing with their chins above the water - glory to God! They say people are on their roofs hollering for help and many went to their attics to escape the rising waters - that is a death trap. I know that dome in New Orleans may have not been the most comfortable situation but -oh well shut up rose! May God forgive me, but it just makes me angry when childrens lives are indangered needlessly.
It is now hitting Memphis, Lord Jesus protect all of those in thei path. For those who did not use good judgement, please send angels to help their gaurdain angels to keep them safe. If you are taking them home, give them the opportunity of ask forgiveness for all their sins - those committed voluntarily and involuntarily, those committed in thought, word, and deed. Protect the children Lord, Blessed Mother, and St. Joseph - you who are the Holy Family - you know the sufferings of families in ways we cannot comprehend. Change the heart of man Lord that we may turn from our evil ways and you will heal our land. Open our lips and we will declare your praises and you wil rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Amen.

This may well be why New Orleans didn't get hit again. The community of faith there is so strong. http://www.spiritdaily.com/katrina2.htm I read somewhere that the name Katrina means 'peace'.

I realize that I am not the only one concerned about friends and loved ones that were directly in harm's way. last night, I tried calling my brother and sister-in-law to see about her (Rosemary's) relatives who live north of New Orleans. there was no answer at their house, so I called my sister who lives with her husband on Long Island. they hadn't heard, but she (Kathy) told me that if there was any bad news, Rosemary would have known about it by then. while I was speaking to my sister on my cell, the land based phone rang: it was my mother who lives in Jupiter, Florida. Mom told me that she had yet to hear from her cousin Bob, who has a horse farm in Mississippi, an hour south of Memphis. when I was doing my undergrad at UT Chattanooga, I had a great bud named Daryl, a Louisiana Creole whose family has lived in Mandeville (near New Orleans) since the days of the French and Spanish (of which he is primarily), and I am hoping that all is well with them. Daryl and I lost contact with each other after we had finished university, but last I heard, he was in Virginia. frankly, I haven't been in a state such as I am now since the attacks on the WTC four years ago. Kathy's husband Warren works as an elevator inspector for NYC, and had been scheduled to go to the Towers that day. as fate, or rather the Grace of God would have it, his shoulder gave out the night before, and he was in the doctor's office for an MRI when the Towers were attacked. of course, I had no way of knowing this, as I tried calling the Island, and communications were down. Mom was able to get through, and then when I called her, she told me of Warren's being okay. of course, it wasn't perfect, as a life long friend of mine, who I had gotten to know when we moved to New York with my new stepfather, lost a first cousin in the Towers.so there you have it. yet another city that is special to me and my family has been hit with misery, but such is life. I am sure each of you has a story to tell, but I do hope and pray that each person precious to each of us will get through this horror, and that recovery will be as quick as possible. Much Love, Jonn

I would like to extend my deepest prayers for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. May the Lord keep them and protect them. I also pray for relief to come to these people quickly.
Our Church is asking us to fast and pray this holiday weekend for the victims of this storm and I invite all of you to join us.
Peace of Christ be with us all,
Rob

I'm stunned at the magnitude of this disaster - my prayer are for all those involved
those still to be rescued
those who have been rescued and are destitute
those who are still unaccounted for
those who have died - may the most merciful Lord have pity on them
those trying to help the people everywhere - the rescue services , the Police , the volunteers .
