"TERRIBLE NEWS [ Patrick Madrid ] 3/20/2004 9:31:35 PM

I received word today that Johnnette Benkovic's son Simon was killed in a car accident late last night.

He had only recently returned from military duty in Iraq.

Please keep Johnnette and her husband Anthony and their daughters in your prayers.

And may the souls of the faithful departed, especially Simon Benkovic, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen."

Johnette Benkovic has a show on EWTN called "The Abundant Life." I believe it was she who first got Father Sopoliga on EWTN through her show. She did a number of shows on the Eastern Catholic Church and Father Sopoliga went from those appearences to his own show with Father Bertha. I think we could say that Johnette is a friend to the East.

May her son's memory be eternal and may he comfort Johnette and family in their time of grief.

Very sad news indeed.
Johnette is a wonderful person, who loves our Byzantine Catholic Church.
A great loss to her and her family. May God comfort them in their sorrow.
Grant eternal rest to the soul of your departed servant Simon,
and remember him forever!
Eternal Memory!

Dear Lord, Have mercy on your servant Johnette and her family who have suffered a grief beyond human words. Lift them up in their suffering and their despair with the strength which only you can give us Lord. Most Holy Mother of God, take Johnette and her family under your most holy protective veil, and knowing how painful a loss can be in this earthly existence, please help them cope. Do not forget all the good Johnette has done for building up Your Kingdom in these trying times for your Church and for society, dear God.

Have mercy on the departed servant of God, Simon, and grant him peace and refreshment in a place of light where Your glory delights all the Saints. May his memory be eternal.

You can send your condolences to Johnette at:

She is appreciative of all the well wishes, as she said in her email to me.
