Father Anthony:

May God grant you many years in His service. May He bless your efforts, make them bear fruit--the kind that endures and that moth cannot corrupt--and may He finally recognize you in His Kingdom.

Thank you!!!

Since I do not celebrate a birthday, this is an important day for me. I am right now on my way to church to celebrate the Divine Liturgy. I will post later on how I celebrate my names day. I am posting a little about my patron saint.

St. Anthony the Great
In 271, at the age of twenty, Anthony gave his inheritance to the poor and retired to a cell in the mountains, where he lived in solitude for 35 years. He emerged to organize monastic life for the crowds who followed him. He then retired to the desert for 45 more years, leaving only for a short time to fight Arianism and to comfort victims of the persecutions. He is known as the founder of Christian monasticism.

Troparion - Tone 4

O Father Anthony,
By your zeal you equaled Elijah;
You imitated the life of John the Baptist;
You founded a city in the wilderness;
You established the Church on the firm foundation of your prayers.
Pray to Christ our God
That our souls may be saved!

Kontakion - Tone 2

You rejected the cares of this world
Fulfilling your life in meekness,
Imitating the forerunner in righteousness:
Together with him we honor you,
O Father of fathers, Anthony.

In IC XC,
Father Anthony+

Thank you all for your prayers. In the Byzantine tradition, one's names day is celebrated with the focus towards the saint, not the person.

This morning I celebrated Orthros and the Divine Liturgy at the academy chapel were I am the Assistant Director. I then hosted a luncheon for my director and my assistant. After a series of meetings (yes, I still had to get some work done) I completed cooking and serving a dinner for the children of the academy. The meal prep started a couple days ago.

Needless to say, no one left the table hungry. I am an amateur gourmet cook, so I prepared a small feast. Now I am back home, pleased that I could make some offering in prayer and tribute towards my patron saint.

Through the prayers of our Holy Father, Saint Anthony the Great, father of monastics intercede for us!

In IC XC,
(Archimandrite) Father Anthony+

Sounds like an awesome day was had by Fr. Anthony on his feast day. I am so thankful this was brought back up, I had missed the events of the day.

God grant to both Fr. Anthony and Heirmonk Elias, many blessed years.
