Dear Friends,

Today is the Feast of All Saints of the Jesuit Order.

We are indeed thankful for our Byzantine Jesuits especially, like Fr. Taft and Fr. Weigel and the others who contribute so monumentally to Eastern Christian scholarship.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother, Our Lady of the Streets, our Father among the Saints Ignatius Loyola, Francis Xavier, Peter Canisius, Stanislas Kostka, Aloysius Gonzaga, the Holy Martyrs John de Brebeuf, Isaac Jogues and their companions, the first missionaries to North America, the Holy Jesuit Martyrs of Britain and Ireland, and all the Saints of the Society of Jesus, have mercy on us and save us, for You are Holy indeed and a Lover of Mankind. Amen.

Add especially to that list of Byzantine Jesuits who have so given of themselves for our Churches, let us add and ever remember the servant of God, Father Walter Ciszek, of blessed memory. Pray too for his beatification and canonization. I understand that both the Latin Diocese of Allentown (PA) and the Ruthenian Eparchy of Passaic are promoting the cause of this holy man.

Memory eternal

Neil

May the Lord sustain the Society and grant that many men holy like the saints mentioned above swell their ranks. May He support them in loyalty to their charism.

Dear Amado,

I grew up in the shadow of the Jesuit Martyrs' Shrine in Midland, Ontario!

Whenever I see the shrine as we approach by car, I do what my mother always taught me and cross myself to ask for a special grace.

It is a mystical place, as is your shrine at Auriesville, New York, where the very best and holiest of our North American history is encapsulated.

AMDG!

Slava Isusu Kristu,

Let us not forget St. Andrew Bobola. He like St. Peter the Aleut is a testament to our need for mutual understanding.

At the historic Jesuit Church of the Immaculate Conception in downtown New Orleans, all the stained glass widows depict Jesuit Saints. St. Andrew has one of his own with golden cupolas in the background. This is the same Church that has a statue of Our Lady commissoned and donated by Marie Antoinette.

Dear Dmitri,

How's the weather in N'Awlins today, Dixie-Man? wink

Yes, when Louisiana was part of the Spanish Empire, the Spanish Church actually decreed the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception to be held by all Catholics who lived in the Empire!

A case of "local infallibility" or something like that.

The Immaculate Conception and the Sacred Heart were primarily Jesuit devotions, promoted by them.

They developed the "bloody vow" or the vow by confraternities of the Immaculate Conception to defend to the last drop of blood this doctrine. This vow was later adopted by Ukrainian Orthodox brotherhoods in the Kyiv region in the 17th century and by St Dmitri Rostovski himself - a study published by Marian Libary at Dayton, Ohio discussed this way back when.

They also promoted papal infallibility.

Our Basilian Order was reorganized by the Polish Jesuits who got them to adopt their vow of loyalty to the Pope and . . .their emblem of the Name of Jesus "IHS" but the Basilians use Cyrillic lettering: "IXC."

Believe it or not . . .

Alex
