Y'all are too funny My hubby's mom was of Irish decent - so it became a 'pork fat thing' as Emiral says. She would cut up salt pork into little peices and brown it with the onions, then add the sauerkraut (drained) and simmer it with the pork and onions. Then mix in the potatoes into the kraut mixture. After they were boiled, then they were fried in salt pork and onions again. Now let me tell you that is some good - no great - eats. Doesn't do much good during fast, but the rest of the time it is wonderful! So needless to say that is how we make ours. But, I love them no matter how they are made. In fact with Stan recovering 'Mrs T's' have been a staple in diets, fried with onions, they are really pretty good.

So, who's sending me some home-made Pirohi? It doesn't matter if they are; Byzantine Pirohis Pirohi of the True Faith, or.. Orthodox Pirohi. Note, anyone that has been here for a while will get that above inside joke. No, for real, who is sending me homemade Pyrohy? -----Orthodox Pyrohy who is waiting with anticipation by his mailbox.............

Well, I just talked to my wife and she went to a food sale today and is bringing back halushki, halupki, pirohi and kobasa with sauerkraut and Pani made chicken soup (which means of course it is soup of the true faith).
I can't wait to get home.

Andrew Did your name change? I don't remember the Y there before. In any case, you are making me really hungry! Yum!

I changed to a lower r, but then realized that I put a y in front after updating my profile. Now I'm used to it.

Dear Andrew, If I may be so bold: Personally, I don't like 'yrilian' because it is very confusing when two consonants are placed together. I was trying to think of the significance of you adding a 'y', and thought that maybe you were asking yourself 'why Rilian'(?) because I think that I remember you saying once that you didn't like that screen name. Regards, Alice

I was expecting a capital C to come before the y in a few weeks. Then it would have made sense to me. Right now I don't know what a Rilian or a yrilian is. Could you please enlighten us Andrew?

Alright, I changed it again. There is absolutely no meaning or purpose to it.
I had some good halupki of the true faith last night...

Inquiring minds want to know.

I was sworn to not reveal the mystery of the filling in the ONLY pierogies I was mailed. I'm still waiting, patiently for more pierogies to be mailed to my pm box.
