What I find interesting is that there seems to be little order or discipline in the United Methodist Church these days. The United Methodists I know are anything but united. That body has really been through some wrangling in recent years over the conservative/liberal issues that have affected many churches. I don't see them ever being in agreement for long enough to excommunicate anybody.

It's pretty much the UM's from the Northwest who screw up everything for that poor ecclesial community (the denomination which I'm from and which I love very much), like that lesbian marriage or lesbian minister or whatever- - -it was lesbian activity that was OK-ed. It really upset most of the UMC outside that area, including my (former) North Georgia Diocese and bishop.
