Hello Folks,

I'm wondering if there are any t-shirts that reflect on Byzantine Catholicism?

Sometimes I go to a Roman Catholic conferences or retreats, and I'd find many people wearing t-shirts, mostly apologetic. Ya know? I've seen like passages of scriptures supporting the Mother of God, or the Pope or whatever. I've seen the Nicene Creed on a T-Shirt...with a headline "That's the summary of my faith" or something like that.

But there are NO Byzantine Catholic t-shirts I could find online. Like "Proud to be a Byzantine" or a three bar cross on it or whatever. Maybe a creed without the filoque! HEH.

I know that I feel a little uneasy wearing a t-shirt with an ICON image on it. Since us Byzantine Catholics and Orthodox take Icons very seriously. That we wouldn't reduce an Icon image onto a t-shirt.

Anybody know anything? Thoughts?

Thanks,

SPDundas

My wife and sons have a couple of Byzantine Catholic T-shirts, which came from the Uniontown pilgrimage and from and a previous pastor. One is beige with a three-barred cross and the names of the seven Mysteries; the other reads "The few - the proud - the Byzantines!" (which led to a great discussion with our pre-teens about sinful and non-sinful forms of pride). So they ARE out there.

Yours in Christ,

I saw a film biography of Andy Warhol about a year and a half ago. I no longer remember the exact title, but I do seem to remember the film being long - somewhere between 2.5 and 3 hours.
In any case, at one point theyinterview Andy's brother and he is seen wearing a T-shirt with at least the word "Byzantine" on it.

Somehow I would not care to have a cross or a religious inscription on my underwear.

Dear SPDundas,

Great idea! cool
You've given me something to look for in Eastern religious catalogs and Ebay on the web.

Christ is our peace.

A brief note -- I remember buying iron-on sheets which were capable of being printed on, and using them to make a sweat-shirt of St Anthony. I was planning on making t-shirts for my parish, but whenever I tried to have the iron-ons put on the t-shirts, it never worked.

Now then, I can go on and say this topic has been known to bring out different opinions and responses from members of different Eastern Churches.

For example, some monks are known to cross themselves and venerate and kiss any icon they see; this includes those on t-shirts.

On the other hand, when I visited Egypt, I saw all kinds of trinkets for sale with icon pictures on them. I wanted a goblet set with icons of St Anthony, but I did not think I could take it home with me without having them break. I saw all kinds of stickers, shirts, et. al there. By the time I left, I thought any Prosario bookstores in Rome would be jealous.

Now combine the two, and I do have a morale: don't wear a Coptic t-shirt at Mt Athos.

Something like this would be good inspiration for a Byzantine version of tee-shirts, huh?

Catholic T-Shirts [catholicposters.com]

Or a generic Christian t-shirts

Yes, for all those who don't want to be ethnic, there have been t-shirts that say "Byzantine Pride". When I read that, I assume that they are the descendants of the ancient city of Byzantium!

Nice selection, but none Byzantine. frown

I liked the Christian biker t-shirts. How about "Byzantine Biker" with a Greek cross in the background? cool

WOW! Cafepress certainly is popular these days.

Wichita Association of the Deaf (I'm a vice-President there)...have Cafepress too.

Also, my work (Kansas' WB (Warner Bros.)) has that too! ha.

Maybe I could create some designs and use them? I am impress with Cafepress, VERY impressed with them. They do good job with our logos, etc.

Our brother in Knoxville causes me to ponder. Is a censor that travels better or worse than a censor that stays put? Or, then again, is it possible that "censer", meaning thurible, was the word intended - in which case one might ask why a thurible would become itinerant?

I got one from the Benedictine Monastery in Butler, Pa a couple of years ago that said

Carpatho-Rusin, Special People.
