An interesting article in The American Conservative , by Robert Dreyfuss, who usually writes for leftist magazines, and who is the author of Devil's Game , a recent book on the role of British, American and Israeli intelligence organizations in the rise of militant Islam [seen as an ally vs Communism and Arab nationalism]. It discusses the drum roll on the neocon right for war with Syria: Is Syria Next? [amconmag.com]

Daniel,

Please recheck your link. I get an error screen with that article.

Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

Father, bless!
I know; I was trying to fix it while you responded; for some reason I can't link directly to the article. However, if you click on the link above you will go to the contents page, from which you can read the article [as well as several other fine articles, especially the editorial by Patrick Buchanan].

The Roman Empire started as a Republic. It'll probably take a war with Canada http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/29/AR2005122901412_pf.html
to get the whole thing snowballing..... wink

Dear Dr Eric,

Well, the Dominion of Canada did have a war with the U.S. in the 19th century and we beat you!

I don't know what would happen in a rematch today, but I understand it is good military strategy not to pick a fight with a former foe who was victorious in a previous war . . . wink

Blame Canada! wink

Seriously, actually not so seriously, did you read the article? It says that invading Canada would be like Napoleon and Hitler invading Russia. Which is probably why the Ukrainians have a good number of people in the Great White North. Eh? biggrin

I thought it was also funny suggesting that Celine Dion and Mike Myers are actually undercover agents. By the way, you can have them back. biggrin

Dear Friends:

We are close to become the next target. As you saw in the news, armed men (drug-traders probably) wearing Mex-Army uniforms shot some Texan policemen near the border.

I was watching today the BBC and the speeches by US Congressmen and government officials closely ressemble those of 1846: "American blood has been shed in American soil...".

Indeed, the puppet government here appears unable to control the internal war between mafias and a powerful drug-trade web north of the border might become visible to the public opinion.

All this could lead to an armed intervention of the US Army in a short-term period as some officials have suggested. It's no coincidence that in previous days the governors of some border states have asked for federal US Army presence.

It's suggested that this will take the shape of a kind of "punitive expedition" with special forces and FBI searching for mafias, and Mex-Am mercenaries (those of the boder-patrol and the local police corps) as a kind of police force.

Any thoughts?

We'll see what happens with Iran. That may trump Syria.

Even though Neil Young is great, Canada still has the greater treasure - Gordon Lightfoot (many years!).
