I am presently working on a really long essay which I hope to publish in an Orthodox magazine sometime.

In a nutshell, I was born to a mother with Dutch Reformed roots, a father with Southern roots (his parents were unchurched, but his other relatives are mostly Baptist), and they baptized me an Evangelical Lutheran. I became a Roman Catholic at age 17, after studying the reformation and it's slogans of scripture alone and faith alone, convinced in my heart I could no longer be a Protestant. All was well, and then I had a personal crisis in 1999. I met a saintly Orthodox priest, who I swear saved my life, and I am a Greek Orthodox Christian as of 1/19/01. I still deeply love and admire Catholicism, but I came to disagree with the papacy and other things.

My parents have a deep appreciation of my faith, and they often attend liturgy with me. They are still Lutheran.

In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. One God, Amen.

Glory due to our savior that you are contemplating a life fully dedicated to God!! If you have been called, then answer your call earnestly. Do not hesitate. God has blessed you with a gift that few of us receive. In all honesty, I wish that I had what it takes to be a monk or even the will power to go for a monastic life; it seems that I do not. Monastic life is a dying breed in our generation; I am so happy that you are considering it.

All the family problems that you mentioned seem to be the same as all of us are experiencing. We all need each others prayer and feedback. I will definitely Pray for your Nieces and you. Please also pray for me.

God Bless you and Your Future Monastic Life; you are truly blessed.
