Check it out - a Greek Orthodox (Constantine Mauroulis) is competing against a Ukrainian Catholic (Anthony Federov) on "American Idol" this season! At least I'm assuming Anthony is Catholic - he's definitely Ukrainian but I haven't been able to find out if he's Catholic. Still, what the heck - it makes for a fun topic, right?

And my wife thinks that the 2 will be the finalists this year! I concur! (Last year, my wife thought the 2 Filipino-American girls, both from Hawaii, should have been the finalists!) Also, I did agree, reluctantly. Amado

Dear Friends,
Why are we promoting such idolatry?

It's a tacky TV show that I refuse to watch. You are not missing a thing, Anhelyna, except bad taste.

Come on, Alex, just admit that from here to Unkraine, teeny boppers have come to idolized Ukie-born Anatoliy Anthony Fedorov, one of the best yet there is this side of the Atlantic!
And to think that, last night, he pulled off a Celine Dion song to the delight of the appreciative live and TV audience!

Dear Amado, The only thing I admit is that many Ukes across the pond seem hell-bent on taking the worst of North American pop culture, rather than the best . . . if there is a "best" Alex

No, Anhelyna, you are missing a lot (of fun)! In its 4th season, "AI" is an "amateur" singing contest pitting teens and young adults (culled from thousands) against each other weekly and the "public" votes who stays and who is eliminated. (I thought a similar program originated from your end?) And who the producers of this "tacky" TV wonder (with an estimated national audience of ~25 million during telecast) are? Brits, that's them. They are piling up the cash! And one of the 3 judges is the "cranky" but mostly accurate Brit named Simon Cowell. I just love his "in your face" judging! Amado

Ah - now I get it Frankly I never watched it over here - could not stand all the hype. The papers are full of such rubbish - and they seem to make masses of cash from it all

Simon's always the winner in American Idol. People watch the show more because of what he'll say to the contestants than the contestants themselves.

I think Simon and Judge Judy should breed. They will have totally insufferable children that everyone will want to strangle. Wonder what those kids would look like - now there's a scary thought.

Charles:
I thought you were not into these "tacky" shows? :p
(At the rate she is allegedly "groping" Simon underneath the judges' bench, Paula might beat Judge Jody to the punch!)
