My family attended the Catholic Family Conference in Illinois a few weeks ago.

It was a wonderful experience, but something happened there I had to share.

Being a family conference, they had program for the children. It was run a group of IHM Sisters from Nigeria. While the parents attended the various talks, the good sisters taught lessons to the children and did various crafts with them

When I picked up my children from the first day, I asked how the day went.

They excitedly showed me all the coloring and crafts they worked on.

My 3 year old daughter then looked at me and said:

"Daddy, those Sisters were a different color"

"Oh?" I responded, a bit incredulous

"Yep" she said "they're BLUE"

If only we all had the eyes of a child.

Yes, thanks indeed!

How beautiful those who minister to the little ones among us.

How beautiful those little ones to whom they minister.

May we all be like those who minister and may we all be like the little ones to whom they minister.

Dear Brendan:

For those of us whose exposure to Nigeria and Nigerians is severely limited to Hakim Olajuwon (formerly of the Houston Rockets), Sade, the famous Jazz singer and songwriter, and Curial Cardinal, His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze, your post on the amazing grace your 3-year old daughter possesses is a refreshing breath of our Faith.

Yours is a family gifted with love.

(I have never noticed myself that the Sisters of the Immacuclate Heart of Mary wore BLUE! cool )

The Church in Nigeria is certainly in ferment, as well as elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa! If I remember it right, the African continent has now more than 113 million Catholics and counting and vocations are in an unprecedented upswing!
