toodles & God bless, sUSAn Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen! Susan and Michelle, I hope that someday I can make it to Holy Resurrestion Monastery for Pascha. Would you perhaps have taken pictures? I have always enjoyed my visits to Holy Resurrestion Monastery for the pilgrimages in October (another not so subtle plug). Steve

Christ is Risen! Greetings Steve and all! There was a lady who took photos and if I understood correctly, she will be submitting them to our Eparchy's newsletter. I was so into the moment that I didn't feel like taking photos. I only took a few photos but none were of the services or Easter Divine Liturgy. Susan and I were honoured to get a picture taken of us with Hegumen Nicholas, Fr. Basil, Fr. Maximos, and Fr. Moses yesterday before we left! Yippee! I will upload the pic tonight and send a link for y'all fine folks to view. Hegumen Nicholas and all of the monks there are very, very lovely souls and we are extremely blessed to have them. God bless! Michelle

Susan and Michelle,
Christ is risen!
Great to hear about your Pascha experience at HRM. How's the building project coming along? Are there any new cells in addition to the prototype?

+ + + The building project has been plucking along. Fr. Basil gave Michelle and I the nickle tour Saturday. There have been glitches here and there - so contributions are still neeeeeeded! Three other cells are started - I can not say if they are 1/4 done b/c I do not have the detailed construction knowledge of what building each cell entails ('I did not retain' is really more like it - as Fr. Basil DID give us the nickle tour). To me they look 1/4 to 1/3 done - but they could in reality be 1/2 done. All three are being done in unison - they are +or- 8 'layers' of super adobe structured up... about 5 ft. high... looks like there will be +or- 40 layers but they get smaller in circumf. so should progress faster (given Fr. Basil's workforce reliability), then stucco, backfill, detail work, etc. (my best guess being a girl and all ) toodles & God bless, sUSAn

Christ is Risen! Speaking of Church Bells. Several years ago the local COPS (police) came into our Church during Resurrection Matins demanding we stop ringing our bells, due to the "complaints" they had received from "neighbors." When I refused, they threatened to arrest me in front of the congregation. Fortunately, the congregation told the police that they would not permit that to happen and the police decided to write a "ticket" for disturbing the peace and then leave.
On Bright Monday I was in the Mayor's Office with the Chief of Police, Law Director, our Parish attorney, and the intruding Police Officers. I left the office with a written apology to be read to the Congregation from the city officials and the police officers. They discovered interfering with a Religious Service is a Federal Offense, that they had violated. And the use of Church is specificly excepted from the city noise ordinance in accordance with our state's statutes on the matter.

Dear Father Vladimir, Bless! Christ is Risen! WHAT a story! I am glad that all was well that ended well. With so much noise in our streets and in our lives, the rare sound of church bells is like hearing heavenly angelic host amidst the chaotic cacophony that many of us have become sadly used to. I am glad that your church is offering this blessing to your greater community. Wishing you every blessing of our Risen Lord, Alice

It may have had to do with the elderly woman who was standing outside our parish after Divine Liturgy tonight, cheerfully squirting holy water at every man who came through the door. Who knows? :p (Sorry - all things Byzantine are still new to me, and I'm easily amused anyways. )
