Dear Alex, That has to be the single most profound observation I've seen anyone made on this Forum since I joined! Well said! Love, Dolly

To bead or not to bead, for me there really should be no question . . .
Alex Alex, once you go east, you will never go west again. :p

I spoke with my Mom (she is in a nursing home in Florida) tonight who told me that she has recently heard different versions of the Rosary. She thought, at first, that they were praying the Luminous Mysteries, but she then realized the Mysteries were totally different from what Irish Catholics were taught. Does the Byzantine Catholic Rosary have Mysteries in addition to the Joyous, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries? If so, what are they? Thanks for any information.
All praise and glory to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

JP There really is no official Byzantine Catholic rosary. Yes, there were individuals and saints who said groupings of the eastern form of the "hail Mary," but there were no mysteries that went with it. The supposed "Byzantine" rosary is a more recent prayer that has been made up by rosary devotees. A made-up history has also been created to support it and you can find it on the web, where one individual in particular has promoted this for whatever reason. As I have said many times before, the rosary is a Latin devotion that supposedly originated with St. Dominic. I know some scholars think it was really created and promoted by one of St. Dominic's followers whose name escapes me at the moment. I have nothing against the rosary and see it as a perfectly acceptable private devotion. But I think you will find it, as well as it's supposed "Byzantine" form, more often in eastern churches that have been heavily Latinized.

[/b] I agree. It would be better still if East and West were together again. [/b]I grew up in Eastern Washington State. I once asked my mother when I was about 10 or so, "Mom, can we go out West, sometime?" And she said, "My dear, Mary Jo, if you go much further West you will be swimming in the Pacific Ocean." Until I encountered eastern Christianity I was not really aware I was a western Christian. I just thought I was a Christian. The encounter has been a joy and a much needed learning experience, but the big thing is really that we are all Christians. Mr. G..---tear down those walls! Blessings to all! Porter...who now lives even further West in western WA. Still not swimming in the Ocean...
